hi gaynorish , i don't think its too expensive ! it all depends how you live , ukturk went into great detail , stating how much the cost of living and itemising it , the gist of it was , buy turkish brands , use your local weekly market for fruit and veg { wonderful produce 1st class and better than what you get in the supermarkets } petrol is much cheaper and eating out is too , if you have time ,seek out ukturk's post i ' t's well worth it ! good luck , simbas

Simbas is correct. Cost is a relative thing. If you came here 3/4 years ago you would be looking at a very cheap lifestyle but the number of "foreigners" who now live here and have unearned income far larger than the local population earned income, have forced prices up. If you want to continue buying Western European branded food products then you will not be able to afford to live here. However by integrating and do as Simbas suggests you are able to have a far better lifestyle than in UK. As has been stated many time on this and other BB you really must live here for a while to find the real costs prior to making a decision to live permanently. You cannot make any assesment purely by coming on holiday. At that point I will add we did none of those things. We came here for the first time, bought a property and have never looked back. But really that is not the way to do it, we had no family ties or commitments.

Just went back to yUK for 5 days. Now there is expensive. Was first time back there for 6 months and noticed difference in groceries, utilities, and of course fuel, even over that relatively short timeframe. Many price increases are of course global, wheat, fuel, and rice will be expensive soon, so will follow you wherever. Sometimes you have to pay a little extra in certain places, particularly for certain luxuries, but as Simbas rightly points out UKT went into this in some detail a while ago, and I have to say that overall, life here is noticeably cheaper than the yUK, even paying for kids in school.

I just put some diesel in our Land Rover and it was £1.30! And a nice loaf of bread was about £1.25!! Think I know where I would prefer to be right now! I would suggest going for locally produced items. The market stalls by the side of the road are very good and extremely cheap. It doesnt have to be expensive unless you want English items which are expensive. And dont we want to support the locals and keep their businesses going
