| I wonder if anyone can give me correct information please. I am hearing so many different stories. What I need to know is, is it correct that people who renew their residency are getting turned down if they do not have a certain amount of money in their bank account and are under 60 years of age but are working and have a regular income. | I could not answer your quesiton Mikki,. but if you are working and have a regular income then I asusme you have a work permit, in which case you cannot also have a Residency when one does appear to have to show at least a regular income from other sources (such as pensions etc). But if you are working and have an employer, thenpresumably they can answer your question. If you don't and are self employed, then maybe you need to find answers from a lawyer. But beware of the regular Chinese Whispers which abound here - so maybe you should definitely be checking with a lawyer or a Government office in an attempt to have your question answered - and maybe take a Turkish speaking friend to ensure you are understood. |

"getting turned down if they do not have a certain amount of money in their bank account" Yes, as the case has always been. " are under 60 years " Age is not a discriminator (unless you are under 16 years old) to residencey. "working and have a regular income. " Then you have Work Permit that also gives you your residency permit automatically. If you are working and do not have a Work Permit and you decalre to the Immigration Police that you are working you won't get your residency but will end up in a lot of trouble.

mikki, If you are working here and are under 60 then you would presumably have a work or business permit so no problem as I view the situation. If you are working without either then expect to be dealt with accordingley at some point. ie deported. However, if you are under pensionable age and do not work the question of amount in the bank etc does come into question. This happened to close friends during the last year. At one point one of friends got so angry at immigration office they had to be restrained. Not a good idea!!!!! The main reason being nobody will tell you WHY especially as this was 5th renewal!!!!! Unfortunatley you will get people with differing situations with very different outcomes. The system appears to be quite arbitary.

I'm 46 with a fairly respectable amount in the bank (certainly not huge amounts by any standards) and I have just renewed my residency without any problem. We have been told as a sort of rule of thumb that if a couple have around £5000 in the bank then that is considered enough until the next year is due. Hope this is helpful

booitsme Sorry our friends sliughtly younger than you had more than £5k in the bank. Said many times, all quite arbitary.

Seems like they change the rules every day. I must admit having read about "younger" people being turned down if they don't work I was a bit concerned this time. Maybe it is because I am married to someone 15 years older than me???? Who knows how this system works!
