We used to buy Polar frozen prawns quite often as they were great, as good as Tesco's fin est prawns, light pink in colour, all cleaned and very little odour, We saved a few for our cat as a weekly treat. However, now they are a horrible shade of pink, intestines left in, and the odour is very fishy indeed. the texture is awful and the taste even worse AND what's more, our cat WILL not eat them any more!!!! Advise everyone to steer clear of them until they return to former glory. Manager at Supreme was kind enough to refund our money when we complained about them, having bought 2 bags at 17.5 tl a go.

That worm thingy is a blood vessel and needs to be taken out before you eat them. Easiest way is to slice them up the back of the prawn and remove from that side. Leave them in and they will taste awful and can give you a very bad tummy!

msg 3: I always thought that "worm thingy" was a poop chute. You can usually pull it out from the top, unless you normally butterfly them.

Do not buy any Polar products.

Please see thread about property problems here.

The owner of Polar is sending one couple to an early grave even though he has a court judgement against him.

Go to hbpg web site to read the story of Don and Sheila Vango

Happy New Year Ricky, hope all is well with you and yours.

Tony, correct mate but it also contains all sorts of other bits as well - here is what to do to be sure:

"Once the shell is off, check to see if there is a black line running down the back of the prawn. This is the intestinal tract - if it's black, it's full. It's not harmful to eat, but the prawn looks better without it, and it can be a bit gritty. Removing it is called 'deveining'. Using a small, sharp knife, make a shallow cut along the length of the black line, then lift it out using the tip of the knife."

Not too happy with the statement that "it's not harmful to eat", after years in the Far East I could never find any locals who would eat it themselves!

I am a bit fussy about my prawns so get the shell on one's from bell foods in karalagalou. Always good but tend to be in only occasionally.

Ask for them next time. They are not always on display.

Please do not buy Polar.

Look at story of Don & Sheila.

If you buy you are just perpetuating the builders being able to get away with whatever they like.
