I don't want add any more fuel to the fire but all I can say regarding Mark is that the guy knows a lot about two subjects. Firstly is knowledge on TV matters is superb and extensive. Secondly, and more relevant in my case, is his knowledge of the visa system. His help was invaluable to me in my recent battle with petty authority and it was he who pointed me in the right direction with the EU Freedom of Movement office in Brussels. Thanks to him and his willingness to help I believe I have managed to make the GC's think again about there attitude about spouses of EU subjects. He rang me at his own costs in both time and money and has offered me valuable information that I wouldn't have otherwise been aware of. Surely that is exactly the type of information and assistance this site is aimed at? Or has it now become purely a medium for selling one's wares?

I couldn't agree more. Mark is one of the nicest guys who (used ) to post here and I for one miss his input. He has also phoned me to help me out and even offered to give me a lift from Larnaca to Girne when I was stuck. Bearing in mind that he was living in Limmasol at the time he was willing to put himself out for me.



He and I do cross swords at time as we both love the debate, but even when he is at his " Worst !!!! " he never becomes abusive or nasty in his postings and if he is wrong he will admit that he is. ( He is mostly right though, his knowledge is vast )

Am I missing something here? I never knew mark was banned. Can anyone enlighten me as to why?. Is it the same old story of the mods abusing their power?. Like local politicians, no qualifications needed, just the ability to wield the axe to suit themselves. I have never been a fan of Mark in the past probably because i didnt like being told how our decision to buy and move to Cyprus may have been risky and the fate that may await us via the EC or a spineless UK legal sysyem. True his habit of kidnapping threads have also been a source of annoyance and not only to mysel, but he has never been vicious trouble maker like Pt Pike and his ilk. His posts on the Cyprus issue may be open to debate but have been intelligent and thoughtful and although it would be nice in this world to only read or hear agreeable remarks, it just isnt going to happen. With regards to his technical posts he is well informed and an expert in his feild who as of yet has failed to be proven wrong and if his efforts to warn people about the possibilities regarding D tv have got him banned then if his warnings come to pass will he receive an apology and get reinstated. cont....

Lets back up this lorry in the name of reconciliation get him back in 44 and lets get back to being annoyed but informed by the clever a**e.

I for one have been perhaps guilty of regarding him as something to be hunted by villagers with burning pitchforks but looking back at his history most of the time he was trying to be helpful so thanks for that Mark and i suppose a sorry is not out of place.

Having met Mark and spent quite some time in his company, we can honestly say that he is charming, articulate and extremely good company. We didn't even mind too much when he ate all our food and consumed all our drink!!

Messages 20 & 21. There's nothing to explain. Mark was banned by Izzet not one of the Mods. It's pointless asking us for an explanation - you need to address your questions to Izzet.



By the way I'm sure you are both aware that Izzet is not very well at this time. I understand that he is aware of the posts being made endeavouring to get Mark reinstated. Therefore can I respectfully suggest that we wait for Izzet to recover and get a decision from him.

A ban of 4,000 days seems a very excessive punishment for warning people about parting with their money when there is a big risk of not getting the service you expect. I always found mmmmmm's posts very helpful and informative.

I have mixed feelings about mark...



a lot of members find him extremely knowledgeable and he will do a lot to assist anyone



he appears to have genuine affection for his (adopted?) island and its original inhabitants

and he says he campaigned for the 2004 compromise proposal (which his gc's promptly rejected)



and while he readily concedes it would be an uphill struggle to persuade the tc's to vote yes

to anything similar (which is not actually on offer!),

he "seems" to view the cyprus situation liberally but accepts the evil isolations,

supposedly mounted for the greek cypriots, where I guess he has friends and business contacts

...while this forum is supposed to be devoted to north cyprus and its very different needs



a well-intentioned firebrand who would unite the island under the roc cypriot flag is bad for the trnc

which he refuses to recognise even as a fact on the ground



no finger down throat, but a grudging admiration mixed with a large dollop of cynicism

He used to be a lot meaner than he is now. He must have mellowed with age and being all loved up with his lovely wife. He was forever getting banned from previous boards for over-stepping the mark (no pun intended) and could be quite insulting and abusive at times. In saying that, he appears to be acting as a gentleman these days, and I do not understand why he has been banned this time. He does, in my opinion, have an unhealthy need to express his views whether asked for or not and will be chomping at the bit reading all this stuff and not being able to comment

mark continues to deny the legaliity and effective right to existence of a turkish cypriot state



some expats don't feel this is relavant to them but in the absence of a cuddly compromise

they could face losing their homes and their property in beautiful maddening north cyprus



although they are not cypriot turks most of them, they could well be the ultimate victims

of any greek-cypriot grab back, which for all the ballyhoo mark appears to be sympathetic to



this sort of mischief is against forum rules and spirit and has been tolerated for far too long IMHO

As he can't post he is now emailing me to point out my mistaken views of him and his pro-south ranting.

The man in banned, leave it at that and let's get on with something more worthwhile that trying to get him reinstated. I find it difficult to believe that so much keyboard time and emotion is put into something so (relatively) trivial. In my personal opinion, the board is better off without him, there is enough derailing of threads without letting him loose again. And for a closer, his viewpoint actually was not any more enlightened than any other poster on this forum, in fact it was quite narrow and jaundiced if you care to look close enough.

Christian only as the service is in English, actually over the years I have come more to favour Islam as their claims are more rational, but not speaking Turkish makes it impossible to get it together with the crowd at the local mosque..

I actually do mainly agree with you on your points, however when you have a person who disrupts every thread with the same old, same old rhetoric, then surely the board is better of without him as at least 50% of the material posted is propaganda ?



And, actually as the man is not a recognised philosopher, does the loss of one person really make any difference whatsoever to the board?



Or is the argument really all about emasculating the moderators and de-regulating the board so it becomes a free for all and the anarchists can rule?

TonyE, sorry we have upset you with our support for Mark. But a lot of people have received good advice from Mark in the past and would like to continue to do so. I see from your previous post on this thread that we are making you sick or was that you're trying to make yourself sick. In my personal opinion the board may be better off if Mark was reinstated and you decided against posting. Anyway thank you for your post which has enlighted us to your thoughts on the subject. I question why you bother to post twice on a thread about somebody you obviously have no interest in, unless you feel the need to get your post count up. The thread is a thank you to Mark, if you think his views are "Narrow & Jaundiced" then I think you must see something different to the majority of the members of this board.

Your general point about sixems, although laboured, is reasonable, and I'd have to count myself in the opponent box rather than the proponent with regard to his postings. He often delved into arrogance and condescension, and clearly has a significant ego.



But notwithstanding all that, his voice was also often interesting and entertaining, and it seems pretty clear that most posters on this board can look after themselves anyway. They don't really need protection.



What they need protecting from are those nasty, insulting, foul-mouthed bigots in the south who attempt to access the site and spread their venom.

One pardon (6xm) is fine, but I still think that a general pardon for all banned members would be preferable. http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/28807.asp Again, it's very clear that if you get a second chance it's really your choice to abide by the rules from then on - or not. In the latter case nobody will ever write about such a new ban again.

P.S. I'm not campaigning here but I hope Izzet will at least consider every single request for a pardon.
