You have to be pretty thick skinned to be able to deal with some posters continually 'sniping' at the moderators.

Who makes a good moderator?

A very good question.

In my opinion someone who is above all the crap; who helps; avoids gossip; avoids confrontation and is well respected.

I doubt if Ismet (Elko) would want the job if it was offerred, but I think he fits the description above.

I bear no disrespect to any of the mods with the above comments.

Above all else - somebody with the time to do the job! That means total dedication and not just dropping in every now and then.

Next - Ask what you want from your "moderator", do you want understanding, patience, trust, humour and tact? Or do you want "Justice"? The same as your policeman - what do you want from them?

The moderator should uphold the laws (rules) of the site - without regard for friendship, race, creed or color. The moderator should not have shades of grey in thinking but simple black and white!

There is no such thing as being a little bit wrong or not quite right - Right or Wrong, that's it!

It takes a very strong person to be a moderator - experience in this field tells me so - and you need to be prepared to sit alone, on your own in a room, surrounded by your mates! Yet still enjoy the job.

Good luck to all moderators - yours is the worst or best job in the world, depending on how you view it.

'good natured and trusting'

Not from what ive seen. None of you are good natured and really not trusting, you take sides with those you have met in real life and dont bother to respect the others perspective.

The Mods are just as bad as the posters, none are qualified.

My personal view is that good moderation is the result of good clear polices on moderation more than on the moderators themselves.

The key thing with moderation is clarity in what is the objective of the moderation , for the mods as well as the users and consistentcy in how moderation is applied. Most people will tollerate most moderation if they understand what the objective and rules are and if they are applied consistently and seen to be applied consistently. Its when either of these things are not clear , to the mods or users that you get problems in my view.

erolz,as usual you have hit the nail on the head.I said this in an earlier thread, whereas one moderator will allow a post another will come along and edit, close, delete it even though no rules have been broken.Therein the problem lies.

Maybe you are in real life.

On THIS board it seems you are not good natured or trusting, because you often dont stay neutral when it comes to disputes, which a moderator should do otherwise the authority of that moderator diminishes and people dont respect it.

Even if you dont agree with something, a moderator shouldnt get involved, it is your job to keep things under control, not to add fuel to the fire. If you want to get involved in disputes then drop the Moderator position.

Moderators on forums should have the respect of the members, atleast, otherwise they cant make a successful moderator, and while many people agree you do a good job, there are those that dont.

My personal opinion, though i doubt you care very much, is that you all are out of control, whether its with the fact you can ban people for 10000 years, or you just enjoy stirring things up.

Thats only my opinion.

It happens in all walks of life, no matter who or what you are. Some people like you - some people don't. That's life I'm afraid. You can't make people like you.

You're also wrong about me not caring about your opinion. I respect your opinion and everybodys opinion on here. You're entitled to say whatever you want - in a respectful manner.

I know it doesnt, in general.. But when it comes to being a moderator all you have to be is neutral, and listen to all sides without siding with one.

Which ya'll do.

Where getting somewhere.

Moderators need to be neutral. All sports referees also need to be neutral. Now, bear with me.

Do you know of any referees who ALSO play the "in" game that THEY referee?

I'm not suggesting a mod cannot comment, but I think it would help (if they refrained from posting), which would enable them to be objective and fair and therefore achieving respect.

You would not allow a referee who supports Chelsea and hates Man U, to referee that game! It would be impossible, no matter how good he was. He cannot make the correct decisions, as some would believe he is impartial.

A compromise could be for Mods to agree not to post (in any form) in subjects/topics which they later close. I know they could post, then ring another mate (Mod) to ask them to close it! But we have to trust this would not happen. Or only allow Izzet/Mods who do not post at all, to close topics.

Funny, but quite a good idea. Imagine a Mod with a serious personality disorder.

Three identities. Two members, and one mod.

He/she could argue with him/herself 'till the cows come home. Then close the thread just before they get banned.

Bully

A Sun reader

Narrow Minded

Self opinionated

Love the great Poo Bah

But seriously you have to be resident in the TRNC that rules out at least one of them

The moderators have an easy time

Without them we would get on just fine

No more time in the sin bin

We will be able to rant and roar and make a din

Or if your words thier thoughts oppose

Mo more the words thread closed

So just why don't they take a hint

Basically thier words we think stink

AJ us one of the worst

Some of his comments are quite perverse

Simbas isn't much better

She's very quick to write a warning letter

An answer to my lines

Could take some time

For this little Rhyme

I will probably have to do some time!

It seems funny to me that I have seen many things that pinpoint the bad things about moderators but I haven't been able to fully agree with any of them.

That can mean 2 possible things in my opinion.

I have been extremely fortunate and no Mod has ever read any of my posts

or

Even when I have been in a foul mood with someone I have manged to control my urges and only write truthfully (at least I believe it to be) and within tolerable limits of politeness.

I think the mods are doing fine with one exception, my only point used to be that they seemed to be more on the side of the longer joined members but then thinking about it they are used to seeing those members posts and can probably guess where it is going as opposed to newer members who could go off the edge.

The exception I mention is when one mod starts to back up another mod on a thread. It makes the original mod look weak and it makes the poster think they are being ganged up on.

Mods should post under a different name !!

Hi Proger1 , originally there were only 4 of us ,and that included Izzet , we were also selected by Izzet , there was ukturk and myself and another who i did not know of at the time , the only 2 who showed their names were ukturk and Izzet , up until then there were no real problems and it worked well , until one time about 2yrs ago , when it seems we were all away . There was absolute chaos on the board due to a certain person . Members were practically baying for blood demanding that they should know who the mods were etc . Some older serving members will remember it well I'm sure . So mods came out of the closet so to speak . So you see we've tried it both ways .

Have a good w/e , Simbas

Given the biased shown on occasions I wonder if moderators are required??

If we are going to have them then surely a selection of candidates should volounteer along with Izzetts favourites. Me, afraid in the majority, would not want the job even if it was paid.

Then have a vote. Those elected we would then have to follow, like it or not.

A set of rules should then be made available for the mods to act under the umbrella of.

One I think is essential is a moderator MUST not be allowed to make unilateral decisions to close threads. This especially where they obviously disgree with or have issues with an individual which happens regularly now.

Similarly at least 2 mods must be in agreement before banning members.

Dear Gates

Most people who post, probably want it read by others. There doesn't seem much reason to post, if you don't want anyone else to read your comments.

May I respectfully suggest you try and add a comma, or even better the occasional full stop. No offence.

gates

Ref. message 62.

I ,and along with a lot of others, are wondering what you are trying to put across in your posting. I see no evidence of you being banned.

And I am trying to make sense of your posting about the following:

'can you believe it there is a mediator or was i dont know if still here that is in this country on a 90 day visa as he has no money no transport works ilegaly if he was not living with his girl friend he would have to go home does this make a good mediator suppose il get band again now dont you find it rediculas to get band trying to ask a simple question amazed me'

Sorry but I can make no sense of the above.

AJ

There was a message on here yesterday, posted by Gates, enquiring about the dates for Easter for this year. I have to agree with him - it seems to have disappeared without trace???

I have sent you an email, but rest assurred, asking about the dates of Easter is not against the forum rules! so apologies for any misunderstanding.

Please answer my email so we can get to the bottom of this mystery.

I am just wondering if the "disappeared" post was really posted under another thread or even to make it worse on another forum. Just a thought.

Re Message 58.

Yep, You're right, she gave me £10,000 and a home in North Cyprus in exchange for a £300,000 UK house, albeit with a £95000 mortgage. North Cyprus won it over for me, that and finding a life.

Skint or not. They say, be careful what you wish for, those who God wishs to punish, he answers their prayers. I don't think the jury is out on this one yet.

I'm better now than I've been in years, the stress has drained away, things have moved forward, I have my new place in the UK now, its very like my Alsancak apartment, only smaller.
