Could any help or does anyone know of a way I could purchase car insurance at the border crossing for a hire car other than arriving in person. The reason I ask is that I will be arriving at the border crossing at meteham at approx 11.50pm . Past experience tells me that sometimes you have to wait untill the following day to purchase insurance to travel into the TRNC.

I booked a car with

I collected at Larnaca airport and arranged for insurance certificate to be supplied at pick-up. It was 45 euro, but at the crossing it can be 25 euro. I was worried that I would have to wait at the crossing overnight for insurance as my flight was arriving late. Also don't believe stories that you have to have insurance printed at the border, it is not the case. The fully com policy I was given at collection was a printed form with individual details written by hand and it was acceptable for several crossings over the following weeks. This information comes from my latest christmas trip.

Dear Ronaldo,

Yes, the company had arranged insurance for me as I did not want to risk finding the border insurance office shut for the night, as I had very late night flight.

It depends how many drivers you have, so it could be 35 euros if more than one driver.

Also 35 euros for 4 x 4s or so I understand.

I'm sure the last time I went South in May 2009, the cost was only 20 euros. When did it go up?

Clarissa2 you talked about paying 45 euros for fully comp Ins. whereas it is only 25 euros at the border. The insurance you get at the border is not fully comp. either side of the border. But I would also doubt if the Insurance you bought from your hire company was fully comp, in the North. If it was then this would be a first & something new I think. Did you see fully comp in writing on the certificate or did you assume it was?

RE: MSG 10.

I clearly wrote that my insurance was not obtained at the border but from the hirer - prior to collection. It states it is fully com to a value of 20k euro for a 300 euro XS, if you want to know more then phone Islek Sigorta on 227 8165 and ask them.

For a single woman travelling after a late arriving flight 10 or 20 euros either way on a 300+ euro car hire is nothing for peace of mind and security.

Thank you gentlemen.
