Both Ileli and Bektas are good for dried herbs and spices.

everon;

Next time I go mushroom picking,I will pick organic ones for you and drop it off.If I can get it out with roots you can plant it in your garden as well.Maybe thyme as well.

Kekik is Thyme I believe.

I don't think Oregano and Thyme are the same thing.

Ozbey;

You are correct,they are not same things.

I beleive,that is the reason they gave them different names.

I pick it from my neighbours field. Why not ask around your TC neighbours to see if anybody has some.

I saw some last week in Lemar under the name of Schwartz, and most supermarkets on the east seem to stock this brand of dried herbs and spices

Thanks again everyone for your help. Just been to Hos Bes it clearly states on packet that Kekik is Thyme. I have got a large bag of Oregano here in the past but I just cant find it any more. The Schwartz are too small, I would use it all. I will ask my friend in the UK to bring me some back.

The last time I bought oregano was in tempo about 2 weeks ago they have a large selection of herbs there. I also thnk they had some very large bags of oregano which were far too large for my usage.

Salahi

Please may I have some cuttings too? To reciprocate are you wanting any seeds brought over from either the UK or Oz in early March? No gum tree seed requests please!

I don't think kekik is either thyme or oregano as we know it, although I have seen it translated as both. I would think it would be really nice in a spag bol though!

Richard;

I would plant them and then bring them round to you,no problem.

As far as making bolognaise sauce is concerned,I do not use nothing other than what I pick in mountains .

However,there are different types of oregano and thyme as well.

Most of what you buy in the shops here are not local.

I was told that thyme was kekik in Istanbul but there will be different types.

Reminds me of the song "Let no man steal my thyme/time"

There are so many more herbs sold in shops in Turkey/Cyprus, and I am over

on Thurs. for 8 days so will bring back sage tea for my son who loves it.

Linden tea is also said to be very good for colds etc.

Hi Lilli you can buy Schwartz dried oregano in glass jars in Ileli. I saw it there today although it is on a small scale and probably wouldn't last you long!
