| Just about every home in the TRNC uses solar panels to heat their water. Martin |

| I don't know much about them either to be honest. If you look on every roof in NC you will see the black rectangular solar panels pointing towards the sun, next to or underneath the water tank. Installed as a matter of course. Certainly very cost effective & eco friendly. Plenty of hot water most of the year round in my experience. Martin |

| Hi with regards to Electric Solar Panels, these are different altogether from water/heating solar panels. Electric panels are photovoltiac panels that transfer light into electric current. Normally in conjuction to these panels you will require batteries and switching equipment to store the energy to power appliances when the sun has gone down. I will be looking to promote and work in detail with all aspects of renewable energy systems when I move to Cyprus...........so if anybody is interested let me know. Regards.....Nunu1 |

| OK, Thank you for your interest, My e-mail address is genesis.pes@hotmail.co.uk With ever increasing energy costs we really have to look at using natural resources. I love the fact of Solar heated water for free! I will be also looking at windpower projects, alternative heating and airconditioning systems.......in Cyprus.!...Forget UK Im finished with this country and its corrupt incompetent Government! | Rosie123 I plan to move to Cyprus July/August just waiting for a handover completion date for my property which will be this month...so Im told!! I will obviously need to get settled in and set up business. I have a very good name here in the UK and gain all my business through recommendation. I am qualified in many trades/industries and am a member of the Guild of Master craftsmen. I hope to build a similar business and reputation in Beautiful Cyprus and maybe employ/train local people! | Hi Nunu1 - like yourself, we are moving to NC but not until April/May next year and are very interested in using natural resources. We will keep your email address and contact you when we get settled. Best wishes for your future. Schnib |

| I live currently in Germany and in the vicinity is a huge Factory making Photovoltaic System bith for supplying the the grid and private homes. The new "dirty" silicone chips are very efficient (more than double the old type (clean refined silicone). The reports say that they will be about 70% cheaper than the conventional panels ie round the 100€ mark. The problem is that no one knows when the productions is going to come on stream. I have been talking at length to both the sales and the developement department. There appears to be a small problem with the cell efficiency when the temperature rises above 25°c at 40°c (which in the sun ain't unusual) the efficiency drops to about a 1/3rd of the optimum. One Panel, thats about 1 m², at 25° produces about 0,125 KW of energy. So to cover a household as an "Island solution" you're going to need a lot of panels. Anyone thought of Biogas from sewage? There's enough raw material around for practically free. |

| Robin Hood Very interesting with regards to Electric Solar panels. I think the World needs to wake up to alternative energy production..............the way oil prices keep rising we will have no alternative....Electric prices have soared in TRNC 3 fold!............I think seriously TRNC should look at their energy supply sources and consider all alternatives to fossil fuel power stations...and preferably not nuclear! | We have neighbours who are using both wind and solar panels for electric. When I asked what the options would be for our selves the answer was "do not ask"!!!!!! It is not just the cost of the wind generator and solar panels, there are the large costs for storage units to consider. You will never get a return on your start up costs here at present. The technology despite all of the noises about natural resources are lagging a long way behind still. |

| Photovoltaics etc (currently) are not cost effective. In Europe the situation is different - The gov (taxpayer) subsidises the purchase of the equipment. The grid can accept your excess power. The grid (taxpayer) buys it from you at a premium. When these three things happen here, renewables will be financially viable. |

| Just had a really interesting discussion with a company selling domestic windmills. They offer a complete package as a back or as a secondary source for as little as €3,500.- plus freight and Tax and duty and whatever else the TRNC Govt can come up with to hinder economic growth. Will get more details and post soon. In the middle of packing and removal stress so please be a bit patient when waiting for replies. |

| Not all solar tecknologies rely on voltaics there are several experimental technologies that can generate base load power. There is a solar "chimmney" which utilises temperature differentials and technologies used to heat water topped up by gas to generate conventional steam electricity on a large scale. Experimental plants are under construction which are promising and no more speculative than carbon sequestration or even newer nuclear technogies, especially given the comparatively small amounts invested in reserch compared to conventional solutions. Also as pointed out above there are a number of newer cheaper Voltaic cells coming out in the near future (including sliver cell technology) which should also make this more cost efficient over time. The mass production of conventional voltaic cells in China etc is also slowly driving costs down. Aussie |
