This sounds like google might be blocking your service (by a default setting).

I am not sure what to try to switch off in tools etc maybe someone with more experience can assist? I know very little and only about IE.

As an experiment try to type in http://www.flightholiday.co.uk or http://www.astto.com one you might have tried the other you will not have if you type them in (not copy and paste) it might prove if you have any other external service (which the ping should also show). It might be worth (in Internet explorer to go to tools then internet opions and security and check if your setting is medium high which should allow you to see most sites.

When you go to flightholiday make sure your pop up blocker is off (in Internet Explorer under tools) and go to Car Hire try to open world wide car hire which should open a new window. If you have success this may at least let anyone who knows more than me about computers (most of the world) what is happening
