United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has expressed his willingness and readiness to engage himself in the Cyprus negotiation process whenever the time is appropriate. The UN Chief also expressed the hope that during the two rounds of negotiations this month, the leaders of the two communities will be able to agree on longstanding issues.

As soon as the talks fail Mr Moon will find it an appropriate time to engage himself in the process, why o why are these two men wasting their time meeting each other, if they really want to receive the Nobel Peace Prize they should close the borders and let the two communities get on with developing their lives.

If the green line is closed it will affect a lot more people in the North than the South. What about all the Brits that fly into Larnaka and Pafos. Think how many TC's will have no work. Two states would be better with the green line left open. TRNC will become a third world country if not careful, the money needed to put a decent infastructure in cannot be supplied by Turkey they have problems of there own. All the Brits on here who want to see the talks fail and shut the borders are shooting themselves in the foot as property prices will plummet no tourist will come and food and goods prices will go sky high. Welcome to Zimbabwe no 2.

If a two state solution was adopted & recognised, the TRNC would be in the EU therefore the border would have to remain open by EU law (freedom of movement of citizens)

One would hope that as a county of Turkey businesses could ply their trade at home.

The TRNC is already very much like a UK administrative county council, we have:

The President would become Mayor as appointed by the President of Turkey

The Prime Minister would become County Council Chief Executive

The Deputy Prime Minister would become County Council Assistant Chief Executive

and they would have a committee of specialists in finance, health, employment e.t.c

The North Cyprus County Council would be split into Boroughs i.e Lefkosa East, Lefkosa West, Girne East, Girne West, Guzelyurt, Lefke, Famagusta East, Famagusta West, Tatlisu........................... These boroughs would have elected councillors who would run their borough as efficiently as possible. That would help alleviate the present each village Belediye/Muhtar problems and make life more bearable for the Counties citizens. I Think !!!

The TRNC will become a third world country as opposed to be what at this present moment in time? All this emphasis on TURK and EU money.Larnaka and Paphos airport, next you will be telling me you drive to Charles DeGaulle airport because flights are cheaper, use the state carrier and airport and you to can make a difference. You are trying to say that the governments of the TRNC and Turkey are as incompetent as Mugabe and his regime, sorry I don't think so, property and produce prices your trying to say that a property in the Isle of White has plummeted because it;s not connected to the mainland? A lot and I mean a lot more tourists came here prior to the borders being opened especially from Germany I think they understood that quality and not quantity was the name of the game.

The TRNC's minimum wage, civil service salaries and pensions are double that of the mainland

How would a manufactuer, hotel or farm compete with a mainland company when their wages bill is twice as much - simple, they wouldn't

If the TRNC becomes part of Turkey, living standards will fall drastically - I can't see Turkeys voting for Christmas (no pun intended)

I would like to see Ban Ki Moon get involved as soon as possible.

That would guarantee the failure of any talks!

I saw his 'fact finding' mission to Sri Lanka recently. His helicopter 'tour' seemed to miss out any of the refugee camps or areas of atrocities by both sides and focus on regeneration and railway rebuilding.

He wins my award for being the most useless Gen Sec of the equally toothless UN in my lifetime!

(being pedantic,... I believe he is Mr Ban,..... Ki Moon being the equivalent of our forenames.)

The RoC's current game I suspect is to drag things out a little longer, Talat looses the presidential election, Eroglu gets the job, and the GCs say the talks have failed due to the hard line nationalist TC president, just like Denktas etc etc ad nauseum

And then we start the whole 35 year cycle again.....

The TRNC is already losing it's young to foreign lands at an increasing rate - in 35 years time the TCs will be a small minority of pensioners in their own land.

A slow death of the TRNC would not be good for anyone IMO (except the RoC)

What really pisses me off is some of the members have been here for oh at least a week and seem to know so much about the politics and bullshit this governments and the R.O.C administrations have applied for their own self centered gratification, nothing to do with peace talks or bringing two communities together, purely a discussion on who has the biggest balls in the western world. We are lucky that the reigning big bull champion is still alive to tell the tale in his Cyprus Today article and he is lucky that his partners in crime have all but passed away and found peace, quite ironic don't you think. It's about time the newbie members to the forum and Cyprus society got off their effing high horse and researched the history of these ghost talks and measured the amount of dead semen the participants ejaculated every time they open their mouths

The last thing the TRNC needs is Eurozone admission.

That would guarantee a massive flood of people, especially younger people, from NC to France, Germany, UK etc.

If born in Cyprus, they can already go to the south and get an EU passport (another very sneaky way of ethnic cleansing)

To all the idiots who wish the border closes and the TRNC left to itself.Wake up.

You have no idea of what you are saying, have no concept of whats happened to similar countries/states just the usual stupid TRNC is the best place on earth mentality. It needs investment or the place will crumble,it'll all end up like Varosha if you're not careful.

Unbelievable selfish and short sighted.
