Katymackem posted to tell folks that she had managed to raise money for Kar, unfortunatly the thread was hijacked and went away from the original topic!!........ It went on to game hunting and shooting!!!!!!

I am sure Kar is grateful for any help it can get, and say carry on with your good work Katymackem, well done you........

Hi Catalkoykid, dont think it was raised for actual money to be given, funds were raised for muzzles, to stop the poisioning...

Dumping of dogs, cats, ponies, pigs , any pet, goes on every where in the world, not just NC.

Wish we lived in a perfect world but we dont.....

NO IT IS NOT MORE MONEY FOR ...............

The pet shop Kutz 4 Mutz in Great Lumey has muzzles which are vinyl mesh at the side and solid vynil at the front so that they cannot pick anything up. There are 9 sizes, so I am getting one only of 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and several of the sizes in between. I spoke to Kim at KAR when I set this up and that is what they wanted. The rest of the money has gone to purchase stainless steel bowls as they also need them (stainless steel can be bashed around and does not break or split). The people of the Butchers Arms in Chester Le Street have also brought things in for KAR. One lady's dog died, so she had donated his collar, leaders, bowls, and a bed (don't think I will get the plastic bed in the car). KAR needs to run its vehicles to pick up dogs and respond to callers. They need land to kennel the dogs, They need money to feed the dogs - THESE ARE NOT FREE. Every organisation has running costs. UK -RSPCA had over 3000 abandoned dogs at christmas

I had not ready the comments posted before I came onto and replied to this post.

The lady who sold the tickets in the Butchers Arms was not the lady who owns the pub. She was a CUSTOMER who was sitting at the bar and overheard me telling the owner about the raffle. She came straight over to me and asked for tickets, so I ripped the book in half and gave her half. Between Thursday and Tuesday when the draw was they she raised £78 and the CUSTOMERS donated bowls , beds, collar & leaders. The owner stored them all until we could pick them up. I was delighted she won the hamper. Every ticket I sold and paid for were marked - REDRAW.

May I also point out that the poison kills other wildlife, not just dogs. The RSPCA and other organisations are overwhelmed by the abandoned dogs here. 'Good Morning', 'Paul OGrady' and other TV shows are showing these dogs to get them homed. Kim Marsh from TV's Coronation Street phoned in for one last week and is being vetted as we speak.

The more funds raised by KAR the more they can do.

My Husband and I were parking our car on the far side of the Kyrenia car park and we found a dog tied to a tree. There was a bucket nearby which was empty and the dog was in a very distressed state. I went to the supermarked and bought food and water and returned to feed the dog. When I returned there was a member of KAR standing with the dog and another young man (TC) who I presume had called them. (I now know it was Margaret from KAR). She asked if we had been feeding the dog and I informed her no, this was the first time we had seen it. We fed and watered the dog - which badly needed both, and after he had eaten Margaret calmed him down and then took him away. If he was returned to the street after being looked after - fine, at least he was not tied to a tree with no way of foraging for himself. KAR cannot keep every dog, they do not have the capacity or funds to cater for 'every' dog.

Right folks - All done

We delivered a box full of goods to the KAR dog centre in the mountains last week.

Kutz4Mutz in Great Lumley and the Butchers Arms in Chester le Street were fantastic.

We raised £205 from the raffle and the man who won the large dog bed thought it was such a good cause he gave another £20. When I got the goods and the invoice it had goods to the value of £235.00 extras donated by Kutz4Mutz. I told her that I had received an email from someone on the forum who stated that they took medication with them ie Frontline. On hearing this she asked if I could use some medication items and gave me a large carrier bag containing a variety of out-of-date medication for cats and dogs. The Customers at the Butchers arms continued to bring collars, leaders, squeaky and soft toys and all the items were transported over in our car with our dog. The staff at KAR were very pleased and we had a look at all the dogs and there are some real cuties there needing a home.

Ignore the knockers on this site as they are the usual one's who sit on their backsides and do nothing.

As they say 'there are more ways of skinning a cat' excuse the pun

help can come in various forms - if people are not happy about handing over cash - give goods - find out what they need - Ring them up as I did or read their website. It states what is needed ie collars and also why they need them - each dog has its own collar with its own number/ID on it, so the more dogs they get in the more collars they need. I also took stainless steel dog bowls as they said they were short of bowls - The staff were delighted when they saw all the bowls.

The people back in England were very happy to help out knowing that it was for a good cause.

well done to you and if you post on here often enough you will know there is a regular band of KAR knockers who will blame thmen for global warming, the greek/turkish problem, last weeks floods and anything else that comes into their empty-minded little heads. Meanwhile, keep up the good work and allow others to do theirs!! Best of luck

message 11 - very well said. But, please, don't forget, there are those of us who 'do their bit' without advertising it.

For everyone, keep up the good work!

Hi Spider, the muzzles were for the walkers to put on the dogs before they left the compound. As there were young walkers very upset as the dogs they took out picked up poison and died before they could do any thing....

Any help that any charity can get from who ever is always much apprietiated..... x

Yes dizzycows i am aware the big P is everywhere and the dogs that get walked need them too. well done all the walkers....but the dogs that are put back onto the streets will never ever be safe..i guess people can agree or disagree on that one..I do hope Kar are doing more work with the schools and universities here to help teach the next generation to stop using such methods it seems the only way forward.
