"Wolverhampton Council makes cuts in services in order to spend £2,000,000 to update an old people's home despite there being plenty of more suitable places available elsewhere," shock, horror. "Wolverhampton Council force 106-year old woman to stay in unsuitable old people's home in need of £2,000,000 worth of updating," shock horror

It was the home she was living in that wAS DECLOARED UNFIT .THIS CASE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW.sHE COULD HAVE MOVED IN THE SUMMER ALONG WITH THE OTHER RESIDENTS.Our council has had to close some unfit council run care homes because they were unfit and moved residents into other homes. The home where my wife works have three people moved there.Quite right Bill,it is about money. It is cheaper to place them in private homes than to spend millions revamping the old places and quite often they get a better quality of care. Its nothing to do with saving money to spend on immigrants as Lilli seems to think, but simple economics. There was no national publicity when it happened in our town, just a simple case of moving the people concerned.OK she is 106,but if someone had spent a little more time trying to get across the message,it could have worked out a lot easier. Some of these really elder citizens are not always dool ally as some seem to think.

sorry coachie as usual one half the story then. I get mad when that Muslim Choudray brags about his 25k benefits and our people live like this. Why didnt they move the oldest first. I do not for one second think she is dool ally..I lost both my parents at early ages and if my mum was still alive I would have looked after her. Bad PR then in this case. I read it that the gov were trying to save money not that it was unfit sory xxxx Do you live in Wolverhampton then xx

Im sorry but do people not read before making comments, they did not move the oldest first, because the oldest and her family decided to fight the move. the council were unable to force them to move until the legal proceedings had been resolved. Times are hard for most families at the moment and most of us would hate it if our taxes were raised to pay for expensive repairs, we have to expect cuts to be made. Some are not nice and at times hard to accept but to spend the type of money that the improvements would have cost, would not have been good for other residents in the local community. However the council had managed this someone would have been upset/hurt, perhaps the families of these poor people would have been better served preparing their loved ones for the move and supporting them through a difficult time, instead of stirring things up. The money the council had to spend defending this action could have been spent in the community helping others.
