If you are quite happy with some emailing, web browsing and Skyping - don't read on. There is no discussion possible: Apple Macintosh hardware and the Operating System are superior to PC's and Windows any version. The good news is that the Mac OS (10.x.x) can now be installed on PC's (laptop and desktop). You can run Mac software (like it is used in the graphical, film and music industry)! I'm going to do it on the laptop I bought today for my wife, because after one day with Windows 7 I have already enough of this shabby Operating System. What a mess! (And there are more than one million viruses etc out there, ready to invade her PC with Windows 7!). Away, away with Windows any version - if you are interested in new possibilities for you and your PC, look here: http://www.hackintosh.com/ Think different...

I'll try not to get into the whole semi religious mac vs pc arguments except to say both systems have their pros and their cons, neither one is head and shoulders superior to the other - at least in my view.

Running Mac OS on PC hardware has been possible for many many years now, ever since Apple embraced Intel hardware and ditched Motorola hardware. However running Mac OS on non mac apple hardware involves many compromises. First off it is against the terms and service conditions of Mac OS to run it on non apple hardware, which means no only do you not get any support but also updating the OS is a major pain with apple taking active steps with each OS update to break it from working on non Apple machines. Also to get Mac OS running on non apple hardware is a seriously technical process and require a considerable amount of expertise, it is not for the casual computer user. Even then the chances are there will be serious limitations re the best use of the hardware you have

in your PC unless you sepcificaly purchased all the components with running Mac OS in mind.

I will be interested in seeing how you get on Hans with getting this running. It is no easy simple task. Please do keep us updated here as to you progress as I for one am interested.

At the end of the day if you want the best Mac OS experience buy Apple hardware would be my advise , thought there is a price premium for doing so of course.

I'd love to know how you get on as well.. I tried, unsuccessfully, to install it on 2 of my laptops and found a lot of components to be unsupported - namely wireless networking and printer support, also had problems with the fans because my Acer had Vista-only software controlled cooling.. Everyone suggested using a USB wireless adapter that was supported by the hackintosh project, but that's not exactly ideal.. You'll never get the real Mac experience without Mac hardware unfortunately. Probably best to leave Mac on Mac hardware only and use a linux alternative for PCs. If you do want to switch to Apple though, Apple Turkey have great discounts about twice a year when they sell off display models, got 50% off a 20 inch iMac just last week.
