BRITAIN will have emerged from its deepest recession since the second world war when official data is released later this month, with the economy showing modest growth in the fourth quarter after 18 months of contraction, according to a respected economic think-tank. The economy, reports the Financial Tmes, is likely to expand by 0.3% over the three months through December, according to the National Institute for Economic and Social Research. However, over the full calendar year of 2009, the British economy is likely to have seen a bigger contraction than in any year of the great depression and the largest annual slump since 1921, NIESR said

education education education.................................. no more boom n bust................ illegal wars.............................. immigration.............................. 100's of extra stealth taxes........ Chav's..................................... Benefit culture ........................ House prices at ridiculous levels............. (many see this as a good thing - well the one's firmly on the ladder) Biggest deficit in government spending ever & rising every month.................... The shit hasn't hit the fan yet cos the Labour party keep propping up the economy by printing money to keep the economy going. Can't be much longer before it fails.

Bill Unfortunately the two real economic indicators are unemployment and property repossessions. When both of those figures are significantly reduced then the UK will be back on track. AJ

AJ. Problem with unemploment is that a large proportion of people out of work in the UK choose to be as Benifets are more atractive than working until this is solved unemployment figures will always remain high. Repossesions are a problem made by the Banks by lending people more than they could afford measures are being taken to sort this but with Mr Brown dont hold out much hope.

and another thing that disgusts me is that the Bank bonus's to a few financial terrorists will be far bigger than all the aid money donated to Haiti where hundreds of thousands may have died. How can you not be cynical.

Yes sienna on a world scale UK is rich but the divide is bigger than ever between have and have nots (ironically under a Labour government) and the economic foundations are sand. Also much of the spending is debt spending supported by the Government. It is economics of the loony bin. It may go on this way for years but I don't give it too long before reality hits home when the stimulus billions fade and interest rates start to rise.

As soon as labour lose the election,Britain will become a better place to live again. It may take some time, as they have dug us into a hole so deep, history has only one precedent.....the Great depression.
