Could anyone out there help me?

Where is the best and most reasonable place to buy prescription glasses here? They have to be prescription so can't buy them from Mr Pound!

I don't really want to go over the border as I would rather spend my money here but if needs must ...

Akay Optik. Down in the town or on the thru-pass. You will need a prescription.

Your UK prescription is universal so, it can be used any where in the world.

We have bought several pairs from Akay Optik using Boots prescriptions. Can recommend them, they are much, much cheaper than the equivalent in UK. They have a huge selection of designer specs, and they are very helpful.

Akay Optik is reasonable, but be careful. I bought a pair a few years ago and after several weeks of severe headaches I went to my local optician back in England. Found out that the prescription had been completely reversed. After about 6 weeks of emails back and forth I eventually got my money back through the credit card. Must also say that my cousin bought a pair at the same time and his were fine.Think it depends how straightforward your prescription is, mine is quite complex, so perhaps that was the problem.

I agree Canada optic have a fabulous reputation and reasonably priced. If I remember correctly my neighbour showed her blue book (pink to some) and got a discount.

Many thanks guys was sorted out yesterday, went to Akay who as you say were very helpful (very expensive even with discount!) but needs must. Now have to wait seven to ten days as they are varifocals and reactolite (I suppose it would have been dearer having two pairs of glasses plus sunglasses). I am most grateful to you all for your input, thanks again.
