Hijackers where are they now?

You may recall a couple of years ago that an atlasJet flight from Ercan was hijacked by a couple of students, who gave themselves up at an airport in Turkey.

The suspects were arrested.

Does anyone know what happened next?

charged?

sentenced?

convicted?



I can't find any information on the subject.

Midnight Express Jail !! heres a little bit of trivial information the majority of the prison scenes were in fact filmed at the Nicosia Prison just across the green/blue line.



On a serious note if any of our turkish speaking friends can find any news coverage on the "atlas two" and translate for us it would be appreciated.



looking at conspiracy theories

Ercan International airport did manage to get a lot of global news coverage during the event " so it must exist and be recognised" theory!!!

Atlas, it was my Humour mate with regards to Midnight express and the highjackers!



Unless I have a different version or there are 2films called midnight express, at the end on the credits it says "Filmed entirely on location in Malta"



This did surprise me I have to say!

nunu you are right the film was filmed in malta and parts in libya after being refused to film in istanbul, this film casused uproar when it was screned because of its potrayal of turks and its anti turkism views and the film was not even close to the book no one got rapped and the lead charater did not bite anyones tounge out and did not kill the head prision warden, this in effect the director oliver stone and the author billy hayes had to pubilcally come out and apologized to the turkish people 26 years later thou



anyway back to the original post the two men who comically tried to hijack the plane was charged with hijacking a plane, being members of an armed terrorist organization and restricting personal freedom which carried in total a life sentance not sure what happend to them thou, one of them a egyptian momen abdul aziz talikh and the other a turk mehmet ozlu tried to get the plane to go to iran or syria so they could go to afghanistan later on they said all they wanted to do is get to their destanation so why dont you get a plane ticket and fly the normal way!!!!! lol

I have a copy of 'Midnight Express', fantastic film and fantastic music.

I understand it was banned in Turkey for years, is this still the case?

The first time I saw the film was on a video in Kyrenia, but it was from 'under the counter'

UKturk Thank you for confirming ref Midnight express and its filming location. I knew I was right that it said in the credits filmed in Malta....and Libiya...did not remember that.....The film was very moving and an eye opener!



Yes Im sure it offend many Turkish people especially when facts are not correct in the film contents.



With regards to Highjackers and Terrorists....as far as I am concerned there is no room for them on this planet.....Hence they should go to jail......!

hi nunu1,saw the film midnight express when 1st released in uk.dont know why but thought it was an agather christie film,if i had known the content of the film i would not have gone in,the portrail of the turkish people, in this film

stuck in my mind for a long time.when years later my wife booked our holiday

to olu deniz,i was most suprised and pleased,to see that the portrail of the

people,was totally wrong as depicted in the film.it just go,s to show how people

can be influenced,even by a film.

this whole you are my bitch mentality in prision is purley a western thing!!!

of course you will find it in eastern prisons but not as rife

and for the film to portray that was totally wrong especially because it was not even in the book!!!! but of course it always the way the americans to beef up a story and show if you are not american you are the bad people!!!! considering the fact the lead charcter was guilty of smuggling drugs
