I have a problem with my HP laptop with the screen going pink however, sometimes when I tip it up the colour comes back to normal.

I have been in touch with HP who tell me they think it may well be 'an issue with the cable ribbon from the system board to the screen of the notebook'.

My laptop is now out of warranty so there is no point getting back to UK to be repaired, so can anyone recommend where I can go in the TRNC (but not Laconic).

Thank you

Try http://is.gd/5ILD3 (click Computers): ComAks (recommended - i.e. by me...). Good luck.

RE msg 1, scoobydoo: (...) I have been in touch with HP who tell me they think it may well be 'an issue with the cable ribbon from the system board to the screen of the notebook'. (...)

=> In the best case it may well be a loose screen display inverter cable (on the mother board or the LCD) and you'll only pay for the time to take the computer apart and assemble it again. In the worst case you'll need a replacement inverter cable (not very expensive for laptops: 12 - 25 pounds) and you'll pay for a sometimes time consuming repair. When you're in the shop tell them exactly about the symptoms of your problem - so they get the idea you know what you're talking about.

First try this.

With the page up and still loggin off, press Ctrl and then Alt at the same time. Then with them pressed down press Delete.

The Task manager screen should come up showing the applications running. Press 'End Task' for each one shown

Before you take it in for the screen to be repaired, try this. Plug a standard monitor into the VGA port on the back and start the laptop. If it all works on the monitor then it is a screen/cable/inverter problem. If it won't work on the monitor it can be either a bad graphics adapter or maybe even bad RAM (but that is clutching at straws), at this point it goes to the shop!

Good luck.

RE msg 13, waddo: Take a torch (flash light) and shine close to the black screen. **IF** you see icons (although very dim!) then it definitely is the dreaded inverter cable problem. Agreed, waddo?

press the off button for a few secs until pc closes down (force shutdown) or pull the cable/tace of batt. you might loose some data from open programms but when you start you will be ask to do some checks.. do them and then scan your discs and download tune up utilities and check you pc / clean your registry also remove fatal antivirus software as norton or other scrap..

COMODO Internet Security Free forever!

and:

Tune Up 2010: http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/

you may use this key to get it free for a lifetime: XJMC7T-TB5CRE-KA08Q3-D272AT-HBF78B-79XFMH ( I found this key on the internet - this programm was not hacked by me.. ) If you like the programm, buy a copy for 30 USD.. Like I did

good luck

Most likely suspect for sure - cables just fall out for not reason at all. I blame Global Warming (used to blame it all on the Nuclear Bomb, but that shows my age!) or just dropsy!

=> Errm - I used to blame it on the Bossa Nova...

P.S. Waddo, are you old enough for that..? ( http://www.google.com/search?q=blame%20it%20on%20the%20bossa%20nova&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 )
