I am looking for an efficient/less expensive way to heat water for showers in the winter, other than the emersion heater. A gas booster system was recommended in a previous thread. Can anyone explain how a gas booster system works please? We don't want to have central heating unless we really have to - can the booster be fitted without it? If so, any idea how much?

I think what you are refering to is a gas multi point water heater, which heats the water as soon as you open the hot water tap. They are available here but not sure where.

I had a gas multipoint water heater installed last year. It cost 1250tl from Ersem Trading, Alsancak, just past Green Garage, Girne to Lapta. It was complete with cabinet and 1hp pump. Lovely to have instant (well, Cyprus instant) hot water but doesn't come cheap, gas wise. If you can manage the 45kg gas bottles it might work out cheaper.

Arcelik sell and fit them slightly cheaper, if you trust Arcelik.

Thank you all for the very helpful replies. Certainly sounds worth doing as my husband forgets to turn off the emersion heater. It was left on for about 6 hours last time we were over!!! Proberly the most expensive shower ever.
