I am taking a small 19in TV/DVD to NC via Larnaca. I have been advised to take out of new box as I may be liable a hugh import tax bill. I am bit concerned at taking out of the box as it is well packed and protected. Any thoughts anybody. What would the import tax be on a £200 television

Appreciate any advice

Assuming you were caught with the TV, the Tax payable is what they say the product is worth....not what you paid for it and can prove. Just as in the case of cars and other goods.

Hi Linus

We have brought our telly through Larnaca. Took it out of the box, wrapped it in a duvet and put it in one of those sucky bag things, packed stuff all around it to keep it from moving around and put it in a hard shell case. No problems.

Linus - we brought a 19 inch TV through Larnaca - checked the unopened box in - this is the best way as it is packed up for transportation. Simply loaded it up with the suitcases into the taxi and took it to our villa. We have crossed so many times now, being picked up by the car hire taxi - we have never been stopped going north - we dont even get out of the car, the driver handles it all. I wouldnt worry about it.

Taken lots of stuff over including TV, nobody is interested on arriving in south all assume you have place in the south.

If you are worried crossing the border loose the packaging and stick it in your case if asked then you can always say its second hand and only worth £20.

I took all the labels off/ carboard round the plug etc, say you kept the box as you knew you would be moving and pop it back into the box, they didnt question me
