businessman is suing British Airways over a policy that bans male passengers from sitting next to children they don't know - even if the child's parents are on the same flight.

Oh please, I think it's an excellent policy. It should cover the seats in front, behind and anywhere within screaming, kicking, repetitive game noises of me.

If the children's parents are on the same flight, why are they not sitting with them?

Its bad enough having to sit with your own children !

As a parent i would be happy for them to sit beside anyone on a flight rather than me !

In a way I know how he feels..

Last September I started a part time job in the Maintenance Dept. of two leisure centres.

One morning I was working in the Male changing rooms. A woman walked in ( yes a woman ) and asked me how long I was going to be. I said about half an hour and asked why she was asking. She said that they were bringing the boys back from the pool to change. ( Obviously a school booking) I said ok and carried on working. She left but two minutes later she was back with the Centre Manager in tow.

The Mangaer asked me to leave the changing rooms.

I am CRB checked and all, so why was I asked to leave the Male changing area unless I was perceived to be a danger to those boys.

I talked to the manager and was told it was 'policy'. I told him that I didn't like being seen as 'guilty' just because I was a man - he shrugged and said he was following precedure.

Funny old world nowadays

I'd like to know who all these so called policy makers are. Whatever the issue they never stand up in front of us and tell us why etc. Comes the revolution!

From a practical point of view it makes sense from my experience.

I was travelling to an important business meeting and obviously want to look smart to impress, especially as the meeting was in Italy.

On the plane, next to me was an English mother with a very young child on her lap and in the seat next to her, her three year old child. She was having problems with the three year old whillst trying to keep the very young child quiet with a bottle of orange juice. The bottle of orange juice was being waved around in a carefree manner. So the mother could attend to the demands of the 3 year old, she asked me if I could have the very young child on my lap. Heavens forbid, I thought and then I agreed, if only to ensure the contents of the bottle were not strewn all over me.

Shortly before touchdown she thanked me for helping her out (she was quite pretty, I have to add) and the baby immediately wriggled round and a stream of orange juice shot all over my shirt and trousers. (to be con

So yes, I say keep the kids apart from unrealted adults. Let them have plenty of fresh air. Suggest put some seats on the wings for them.

Cannot the possibility of males being sat next to unrelated children be prevented by the computer at check-in?

And why just males? Are they saying that females cannot be perverts?

But how and why can a child be travelling unaccompanied anyway? Like Joe Soap says have special seats on the wings, or in the hold, for if it has to happen.

Unruly kids need help - thump their parents

Reminds me of an old saying:

Insanity is hereditary - you get it from your kids

The next thing they'll be doing is banning the children from seeing the captains cock pit. My wife used to love that.

Before I had a child I always asked to be seated at least 7 rows from the nearest child, it worked every time.

Dusterbruce: As a child I was regularly an unaccompanied minor on long haul flights to Mauritius and Hong Kong, this is the case for many kids of ex-pat families. It was an adventure to me.

BillyB: Unfortunately on most airlines ( except CTA) it is no longer possible for anyone to visit the flightdeck for security reasons during the flight.

When traveling on Turkish Airlines as a single female it is their policy where possible, to seat you with other females and not next to a male, same on the long haul buses in Turkey.
