| A young Epping schoolgirl was so inspired by a visit to the Kyrenia Animal Rescue Centre that she set about raising money to help the animals as soon as she returned home from her last holiday. 11-year-old Alice Andrews and her family have been visiting Cyprus every year since family friends Tracy and Phil Stringer moved to the island some eight years ago. During the family's last holiday a young abandoned puppy was found and the Stringer family, together with Alice, took the pup to the KAR Rescue Centre. As soon as Alice returned home she collected all her own unwanted toys together and discarded items from friends and family members to run a stall at a local Car Boot Sale. Not content with her success at the carboot, Alice then went on to complete a three-hour sponsored silence. Not a great length of time but according to Mum Kim and Dad Tony it was an enormous effort for Alice who is known as a bit of a chatter-box. The Andrews family have four rescue dogs of their own including two Kangols as well as a rabbit, two tortoises and a heron who has taken up residence in the garden. The grand total of £200 raised by Alice was handed to KAR representative Christine Oketikin at the Hideaway Holiday complex last week, where the Andrews family were on holiday. Alice has more fundraising ideas planned, including getting Grandmother Shelia Pollard to have her hair dyed in multi colours. |
