Robert Beckingham, who lived in Karaman but died in the UK last week, was known as "Sir Robert" by many. I remember him as the man who celebrated his birthday two or three times a year... His ashes will be returned to TRNC in the spring - and this will be followed by 'a jolly good party' in Karaman's Levant bar and restaurant. For his obituary see Cyprus Today (January 27, 2010). And here's to remember him, for ever on the Internet: http://www.allcrusades.com/BB_pics/DSCN7279_Beckingham_cut_72.jpg

Remember him and his partner well on their yacht in the harbour when Brit's were worried to put a vessel there. They told me a lot that was new information - as you say a character lost.

A great guy. Only knew him for the last 18 months or so but always enjoyed his company and stories. Did you hear the one about flying a Spitfire to Israel.....???
