| Women of Northern Cyprus are silently making their opinions felt on Saturday mornings as they gather at Ledra Street Crossing to ‘speak’ their views on aspects of the negotiations. They call themselves ‘The Women who Support the Negotiation Process’. Wearing white as a sign of peace, they share their thoughts of hope that negotiations will lead to a successful conclusion. Being non-political, they represent all walks of life, as they gather 11a.m. to 12 noon at the point where north meets south This is their third week of showing support with their message of hope through the forthcoming visit of the Secretary General. Each week they ‘speak’ of differing events which could damage negotiations and they will continue to gather for an indefinite period in the hopes their messages will be heard. Everyone is welcome , including men, with the request of wearing something white to signify support for the peace process. (this message is front page of Cyprus Observer - now read it |

| Yes, Lilli and I believe that Ghandi -like silence is more effective than those who would go shout outside Ledra Palace when Mr Moon is there. It is good that the women are taking a greater place in society here. There is a group, as you know, Akova Womens Association who are behind the fvba. new cook book. Their motto is 'Strong women= strong society'. So, as the women get stronger, so should our society. Even if the talks come to nothing, it can';t be said that the women of Cyprus did not support their leaders - at least the north is. |
