Glad to hear that you got back safely. Now let us know what the temperature is over there as it has been freezing here since you left.

In Brisbane it's hot, 35C'ish and muggy and very expensive though the exchange rate doesn't help one iota!

Thanks everyone for your messages.

Sydney has been hot and very humid since we got back with the odd shower here and there.

A lot has changed and particular rents and house prices are a lot higher and not a lot of sign of Efes beer etc., but still plenty of kebab joints alongside the Thai and Japanese.

Will keep an eye on things in Cyprus and hope you all keep well etc

Sorry I never knew you (at least I don't think so) but I envy you like stink at going back to Oz. I would LOVE to go back, but increase in prices etc makes it financially impossible for us to go back on a Retirement Visa. I need a Lotto win for that.

So where are yu You say Brisbane and then Sidney. I have rellies in Brisbane - one is Natalie Cook (know her, a volleyball player), but I was in Perth (now an expensive paradise, but before a laid back backwater).

So, I wish you every joy back in that lovely warmth with the lovely Aussie people.

Go well. Enjoy, and if you come back, look me up. And bring me a touch of the amber nectar!

Went to Perth in October, thought it was wonderful, my son is there. May be expensive for us but in relation to earning potential is cheap and their way of life is almost perfect. Shops close 5pm and sundays, then it is family and leisure time. Everything is geared for relaxing, parks have free gas bbqs, almost all car parks are free outside the city, and the beaches are clean and vast, everyone is so friendly.

Msg 13

True, free gas at BBQ's in parks but to ban alcohol on 'Oz Day' is very un-Australian, the booze cops were out in force dishing out tickets galore! Another nanny 'state' in the making!

Just got back from Brisbane, we had a fabulous time there with the family and were amazed at the free outdoor facilities available to everyone, so much on offer for enjoying leisure time. I found things very expensive compared to TRNC but salaries over there are much higher so it's all relative.

What really struck me was how clean and tidy everywhere was, no rubbish, grass verges well tended, beautiful beaches, what a pleasant change that was, having said all that we were very happy to get back home and are settling back into our lovely life once again.

As for booze cops dishing out tickets, if people are stupid enough to drink and drive then they deserve all that they get, nanny state, not at all, responsible more like.

Aussie,

Good on you and your good lady mate! Your analysis of TRNC issues will be sadly missed.

Both of you take care, and travel light!

Interesting isn't it, that when I came here from Oz, about ten years ago (for three months to escape the aussie winter) things were cheaper than TRNC. Now, t'aint so. Everything changes - exc\ept my statement as to how fab Oz is. Agreed a 'Nanny state in the making' but it is all to keep Aussies safe and happy. Must admit that in another 20 years it could be as overbearing as Britishy 'Elf and safety' rules, but for now, the wide open spaces, the fab beaches, the way of life and, and, and - oh well, I just envy 'Aussie'.
