On Tuesday we woke up to find a dog on our doorstep in Esentepe. She's a mature dog, medium sized and of mixed parentage which may include a bit of alsation and retriever. And - she's absolutely gorgeous - loving, obedient, mixes well with other dogs and loves riding in the car. She was obviously someones pet which we suspect has been dumped. She understands english and will sit on command. Unfortunately we already have 2 rescue dogs and don't want a third. KAR won't take her and we know that she would not survive on the street. At the moment we are looking after her but need to find her a family home. If you would like to meet her, please contact me on 0533 8614873.

I do believe that it should be enshrined in TRNC law that everyone who owns a pet, dog or cat - should be required to register them with a central register, and when anyone leaves the Island - as they pass through Customs (who should be in possession of a list of names of pet owners) should be required to have a contact 'phone number of whomever now has their pet, and BEFORE they are allowed to leave the Island - Customs should be required to ring the new owner to get confirmation that the pet is now in safe hands and ownership has now transferred to them, and THEIR details now be committed to the register. This would go towards preventing pets being slung out like superfluous packing - and make for accountability and heightened responsibility - sadly lacking clearly........

Hi MsGarnet if only. Some people think that pets are disposable. I have seen 3 beautiful well cared for dogs up and down the main road all week. They may as well just shoot them as thats what will happen on the street. The damage done to these pets is awful and owners should bear this in mind before dumping them. One of the strays that came around the restaurant got shot on tuesday, to see that was awful.I have 3 Im looking for homes for and its getting so much harder xx

Hi MsGarnet.......great thread full of common sense/can never see it happening in The TRNC. I'm at a loss to understand how anyone can just dump a poor defenceless animal. Be assured that Susie will be well looked after until we find her a suitable home.On her first day with us she refused to leave the car in fear of being thrown out again.Words just fail me. Art

It will be a while before I am back on the Island, but after my daughter's pup being poisoned in Girne, and the heartache that brought - doubt I will ever have another pet - I am a dog lover and can't stand to read almost daily of these poor animals having appeared to know cuddles, food and water, shelter; a home to call their own - security, to suddenly be left defenceless and traumatised - unbearable.......

Susie went for her daily walk today in Esentepe and picked up some poisoned meat. We got her to the vet on time and I'm glad to say she will make a full recovery. Our other dog Tess was also poisioned a few weeks ago and again through the skills of our vet she has made a full recovery. We really do hope we can find Susie a wonderful home-having been dumped and poisioed all in one week she deserves a loving family and a happy life. Thanks Art

oh magic this is so awful. thank god she has you. i wish you luck with your quest. I have just written a story on Rainsbow Brige about the strays. Sat here crying my eyes out then to read your news. Will it ever end. I wish people who dump thier dogs realise the life they are giving them. See it day in day out now. Its just an early death sentence for these poor souls xxx

A liitle turn off about 2 miles past the school on route to the church. It was a great walk for the dogs but not anymore Police are just not interested -the local sheppards are the problem-they see traces of dog poo around their grazing land then drop the poison down. Thanks

I have just been to visit some friends in Alsancak, and when I came out of their house, their was a cute little dog, that was cowering while it was trying to be brave enough to get near me, and all the time wagging its tail. So skinny, I wanted to cry. Guess what, it had a red tag in it's ear.! When will KAR realise what they are doing to these animals by putting them back on the streets, with no hope of fending for themselves.

Could'nt agree more. Kar told me to take Susie back to Esentepe-put her out on the streets-don't feed her and if after 8-10days she looks like she's lost weight call them and they will collect her. Hmmmm Susie is a house dog and would never fend for herself on the streets this is why we are looking after her in anticipation that we can find her a loving home--------I 'm sure we will with the help of our friends---she's such a lovely dog.

Just a thought about our lovely temporary Susie. If someone would really like a dog, but goes back to the U.K. or elsewhere on holiday on a regular basis, PLEASE don't let it stop you considering her. We would be more than happy to look after her when you are away. She's great mates with our other 2 dogs. We are having her checked out at the vets next week and will pay for any injections she needs.

can you tell me who is laying poison meat here and there, local people or the local authority do they the locals if it's them do this for fun or is there another reason this is murder in the eyes of GOD,one day they will face their maker who created all, they have no right to take a dogs life or other for the fun of it

Without any evidence this is a very difficult queation to address. Agree with your views and one day they will pay the price for this awful act. On a better note we think we have found Susie a lovely new home and she will be moving out soon and we know she will be well looked after. Thanks to everyone for supporting this thread. Art
