Hi all,

I have had a long term renter in my property and they had Dopi installed. The one year contract is about to run out but I really don't want to renew it. Would I still be able to watch any English channels without renewing the contract?

I would not have thought so as you have to pay an annual fee for the use of their system.

Maybe you will get away with it for a while if the tenant had not cancelled it and Dopi have not caught up with themselves and chased it down.

Mine is about to run out any day now and I know that some other members of this forum have received a call to inform them that their new subscription is due and if they have said that they are not going to pay, Dopi have asked for the equipment back.

Hi all,

When the tenant had the system installed I went halves with him and I was given to understand that the equipment was ours. It should be as installation was more than £500. I have already been contacted by Dopi to tell me the contract expires next week. I do not wish to renew it because I am only in the TRNC about 10 weeks a year at present. I have discovered that if you have satelitte TV for holiday rentals, they just stay and watch it with the AC running instead of going out. So not only are you paying for the TV but also electric bills are higher. However I would like to be able to watch something myself when I am there and I thought you might be able to get one or two channels free from the dishes.

To answer the original question - yes. There are quite a 'few free to air' English channels on Hotbird, Nilesat and Turksat depending on which dishes you have. I can't be more specific just now because, yet again, there is a power cut in Karsiyaka.

Hi jovial john,

As I have 3 dishes on my roof, I would think I perhaps have all 3 of the ones you have mentioned. So hopefully I should get some programmes. Thank you all for your replies.

I have Dopi and I am almost sure that they operate the same system as Digiturk: You buy the dishes and rent the box.

No, you only have 2 satellites - the third dish is exclusive for the licence data. But there is very little free English on Turksat so even if you have it now you could have its dish repointed to Nilesat.

The following 2 links will list all free English TV and Radio channels on Hotbird and Nilesat respectively:-
