Go and buy a 'branny' (c/w float-switch) at 'Homebase' - mine cost €56. Claims it has a 24 month warranty - but Cyprus is Cyprus!

Here, (e.g. @ 'Il If') you'll pay 300TL for the same capacity, and 'God knows what brand/reliability', equivalent.

Hi John,

Got mine from Siba on traffic lights near bellapais.

It was 60TL but you will have to buy the hose from the yapi market, but don't buy garden hose because it kinks and it a pain to stop make sure you buy a hard plastic hose or the roll up hose.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you run any pump in TRNC from a voltage surge protector - then even the 'cheapies' will last, but failure to do so will likely render even the most expensive ones 'rooted beyond repair'!

Can I not use my existing pump? It was taken out before the rain. But now there is over a foot of water in the pump room. If I attach hoses to inlet and outlet and switch it on..would that pump the water out or am I being daft.

Hi Vidal,

You could do but the problem is when doing this you sometimes need a bit more water for the pump to go in other words sometimes the pump pulls more than what you want.

The problem you have then you cannot open the main drain or something to feed more water in so you will be better off just buying a small pump because if you get it wrong it will cost you dearly.

Hope this helps.

Dikkat/Watch it, Vidal!

I hope this message gets to you in time, because if not, you've probably electrocuted yourself already!

We're still here. I decided to play safe and have emptied it by hand in the end. Actually just sitting here drying out.

My son was taking the buckets of water off me and dropped the last murky bucket full all over me! Great. He is still laughing!

Hi Vidal,

"If I attach hoses to inlet and outlet and switch it on..would that pump the water out or am I being daft."

You would have been able to use the pump, with care, but it would have needed to be primed before you turned the power on, and make sure outlet was well away from the pump and power supply ))

I guess your advice, if they follow it, is a good way of getting rid of a fair few 'Poms', Vidal!
