Always keep a little something in your stomach. Hunger seems to heighten the nausea, and then eating to appease the hunger exaggerates it. This means eating a small amount about every two hours.

Limit intake of sweet foods, which may enhance nausea.

Include foods that have a concentrated caloric and nutrient density in order to maximize intake in a small volume.

Avoid fatty or greasy foods. They take longer to digest

Drink beverages separate from eating foods.

Keep dry, complex carbohydrates around to nibble on, especially before getting up in the morning.

Some women find that low sugar, carbonated beverages help. Try soda water mixed with a little juice.

Drink slowly, a few sips at a time.

Drink ginger ale or ginger tea, or nibble on ginger snaps. Researchers who have studied ginger have found it to work as well, or better than, some pharmaceuticals in fighting motion sickness and morning sickness.

Be sure to drink in order to avoid dehydration.

Keep in touch with your doctor in order to avoid any complications that may arise as a result of the vomiting or lack of eating.

Try wearing an acupressure wrist band - the type worn by boaters to avoid seasickness.

Ask your doctor about a vitamin B6 supplement. This has been found effective in women with severe morning sickness.

Find which foods you can tolerate, the times at which you can best eat, and then go with that. For now try not worry that you are living on plain rice and dry cornflakes.

Lemon and mint tea works for my neice. Avoid taking any tablets prescribed for morning sickness if you can help it. Also take lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Agree with Sienna - have a sip or two of water and a digestive when you wake up, before even putting feet out of bed!!

Ginger worked for me - plus avoided coffee for first trimester - your body will tell you what you need and what to avoid (throwing up at the sight of some foods and smell of others is always a lightbulb moment)!!!!!!!!

As someone said, nibble a ginger biccie or maybe honey and ginger in hot water (or both) BEFORE your feet hit the ground in the morning........make sure you get plenty of rest.....

Talk to your doctor about:

Vitamin B6 - 50 mg. daily. Vitamin B6 has been shown to help with pregnancy induced nausea.

Ginger capsules: 250 mg. three times daily. Ginger has long been associated with alleviating nausea. (Remember drinking ginger ale when you felt sick when you were little?)

Ask your doctor if you can stop taking your Prenatals temporarily to see if the nausea diminishes. You may still need to take a Folic Acid supplement to help protect your baby.

Talk to your doctor about not taking iron supplements unless you are anemic. Iron supplements can be hard for your stomach to deal with.

Get out of bed slowly in the morning.

Try eating plain crackers or dry cereal before you get out of bed in the morning.

Home Remedies From the Cupboard

Crackers. Crackers are a pregnant woman's prize possession (food-wise). They are portable, easy to digest, and inexpensive, and in many cases, they nip nausea in the bud. Plain, whole-wheat crackers, pretzels, plain popcorn, or low-salt soda crackers are your best bets. Nibble on them throughout the day and before going to bed. If morning sickness hits full force in the A.M., feed your mouth before your feet touch the cold floor. Better yet, stay in bed nibbling on crackers for several minutes. Sudden transitions from the horizontal to the vertical often trigger nausea, so go easy in the morning.

Potato chips. Perhaps pregnancy is the only time in a woman's life when potato chips offer a cure...and can be consumed without guilt. For many women, munching on a few chips (note the word "few") at the first sign of nausea helps dissipate it. If this cure is for you, stick to regular potato chips and stay away from the fat-free varieties that contain Olestra, the fat substitute. Olestra robs yours body of important nutrients, and it is known to cause diarrhea.

Sometimes pregnancy brings about an over-production of saliva, which can make the mother-to-be sick to her stomach. Nibbling on a handful of salt-and-vinegar chips helps dry up the saliva.

Citrus fruit. A small slice of lemon, lime, or orange added to your water or herbal tea can help ease nausea.

Fruits and vegetables. Water consumption is very important during pregnancy, but all your water doesn't have to come from the tap. Foods high in water content work double time at preventing dehydration and its partner constipation, both of which aggravate nausea. Try snacking on melons, carrots, celery, grapes, apples, pears, and frozen fruit bars.
