Sorry, apart from all of my typo's I am not sure if my message was clear. I am applying for the police disclosures needed to complete my permission to purchase but the form does not mention Cyprus. The copy of the form was sent from cyprus and is for immigration purposes to the countries above. Please can someone confirm that this is a valid form for the purposes of theTRNC. I don't want to waste £80!!

many thanks for your help!

I did not need this form for Permission to purchase because the police here used to apply direct to Interpol in the past (2001 in my case).

I'm sure you need to go to your local police headquarters nowadays & they will use the correct form. Not clear from your message where you got the form from? Hope this may help until someone else who has gone through the new procedure since around 2007/8 can help you further.

Also pretty sure they do not charge £80 to complete this form to say you have no criminal record. Did the UK> police quote this amount?

Definitely shouldn't cost that much. You can download the form from your local force's website. I think it costs around £10.

Talk about moving the goal posts on everything.

I assume they want a Police Report from the country of your origin. We had to have one for Australia, and the form was given to our local police station in U.K.

Haven't had to have one here yet, but we need to for Permanent Visa, and I assumed this was a report from Cyprus where we have been for the last few years, so that Immigration know we haven't been in trouble here.

I think it might be an idea to put through a phone call to a lawyer, or maybe even BRS could help (???) just to clarify what is required. Maybe we all here are barking upthe wrong tree. Don't waste your time getting wrong info, nor spending money (£80 seems a lot!!!!)

Maybe you need to check as to which country they want to supply the info.

#Sorry I can't help mjore than that - it is a bit confusing, isn't it?

It's your country of birth or where you were residing before you came here. (I think)

I can't help with which country you tick, but I know that in the past these police reports used to be free (then in some cases paid for by those requesting the info - i.e. Social Services if you were applying for a job with them), but they started charging for them a good few years back. I had to pay for my own way back in about 2001.

Judyr sorry if I'm being thick but what is the name of the form you are completing? I ask because this is the form I completed (it is known as subject access) http://www.essex.police.uk/PDF/A96.pdf You submit the form with proof of ID (we went to the HQ with our passports), pay £10 and then wait a couple of weeks for the document to be sent.

I thought ıt was a report from wherever you were resıdıng before you made thıs applıcatıon. If ıt was here ın TRNC then the report wıll need to come from your local statıon here. Otherwıse ıt wıll be from the UK. That ıs what I was led to belıeve when I asked about character references not long sınce.

Our lawyer in the TRNC gave us the forms and we filled them in and took them to the police station nearest to our property in London, and we were charged £10 each. They took a month to come back to us and we sent them off to our lawyer in Kyrenia. I don't know why you are being charged £40 each for them but I would definitely not pay this without questioning it. Who has asked for this money your lawyer for the forms, or your police station?

Did it a couple of years ago, go in to your local police station where you stay in the UK, tell the officer on duty that you are buying a property abroad and require a police report showing you do not have any skeletons in the cupboard at which point he will have a good laugh and give you the form to fill in and return to him with a £10 fee. They are used to people requiring this service with the numbers of UK citizens buying property abroad.

The only thing i would say is that it takes several weeks to get a polce report sent to you, best of luck.

The Butler,

The fee is stated on the form. The form was given to us via a link from the lawyer in Cyprus. However the form is specifically for those emigrating to USA, Canada, Australia hence my original query does it matter which I tick?

I emailed NZ Police requesting a letter for a clean bill of criminal health and they sent one to the Girne Police and a copy to me which cost me nothing. Maybe there's so little crime in NZ the Police had plenty of time on their hands to carry out my wishes!

Judyr - sounds like the form you are completing is not the right one. For Permission to Buy you need to get a police disclosure from the country you last resided in (or are currently residing in if not living in Cyprus). The form in UK is called subject access and costs £10 as posters have mentioned before. Some countries such as Denmark and NZ don't charge at all so £80 for 2 sounds a bit steep. Personally, it rings a few alarm bells.

If the lawyer has provided the wrong form then maybe the lawyer is on the make. That would be no surprise. It's unbelievable that a lawyer could provide the wrong form. Has the lawyer asked you to pay him £80?

It's obvious, as others have said, that you have the wrong form. I thought it was only £10.

Marie B. They haven't moved the goal posts yet again. There has been this requirement to get a statement about your lack of criminal record from the UK. police since around 2007?, for Permission to Purchase purposes.

My son just popped in to his local Police station, told them what he wanted gave a few details and a month later he got the apapropriate letter from them - £10. (its a letter not a form back) And that was last month not years ago.
