It's cheaper.

Fully comp. is very dear here & until recently there was no NCB either. Car repairs are much cheaper here than in the UK. If your vehicle is written off here, then you are likely to be dead anyway. Almost no chance of theft of the vehicle which is high risk in UK. You still have your UK. head on I think.

I always had fully comp in the UK. I also had it here during 1st year with a brand new car, but not since then for 7 yrs, until this year, because it was cheaper than in the past. Btw. It is not possible to cover a car fully comp. after it's 10 yrs old. So we will be back to third party or have to buy a new/newer car.

Hi Basheer

How are you?

Scruff is correct in saying that if your car is over 10 yrs old then you can only have 3rd party

There is no NCB's here in the TRNC and there is no chance (as of yet) for Fire and theft.

The UK laws do not apply here so you have to get your head around the laws n regs my friend which is hard to do.....

As Scruff said it is really cheap to do car repairs here anyway.

So if you would like a any general information or for a quote for your car then please ring me

I will be happy to help you my friend

Thanks SarahJB. It's nice to be right sometimes. I was told told that we would get an NCB, at next years renewal. I really do hope that I wasn't told porkies, otherwise there will hell to pay next year. I have seen NCBs being advertised here by Insurance Agents. Are they all lying? Maybe don't answer that.

Repairs are still much cheaper than in the UK. although not as cheap as they used to be. They are also far more likely to repair a panel, rather than just put a new one on as in the UK. There appears to be no incentive in the UK. market to keep repair costs, after accidents, low.

Not having fully comp. makes you drive more carefully. The exterior of our car is far cleaner than the interior, with hardly a mark after almost 8 yrs. The only thing you have to ensure is to keep out of the way of the other mad drivers here. We have not even had a bump here or a scratch. Oops, we did have another car back into us at Larnaca airport. No damage but guess what, it was a Brit. in a hire car.

I have been told ..rightly or wrongly..that there is little point in having full cover because if you are involved in an accident with a tc, it will always be your fault, even if he has driven into the back of you...make of that what you will!

The good thing about car insurance here, is that the premium relates to the insurance value of the car, so it goes down every year.

Well it seems there is some confusion about NCB. Totally ludicrous, IMO, that Insurance Companies here don't reward careful drivers with an NCB.

msg 10

K, surely the premium for fully comp. in the UK. would reflect the aging car's value. They alsways wanted to know the date of 1st registration & asked you for the value when you first signed up for cover.

Our 7 year old car went back on Fully comp last year. The premium was much lower than when new, but the value used (by the company) last year was still 2/3rds of the original price. Even here, with high prices for 2nd hand cars, this was a ludicrous amount.

I know of someone whose car was flooded out during the bad rains in December to the west of Girne. The cost of the damage was 3,000 euros & because the car was parked at the time, the damage wasn't covered. This is appalling.

Like may other things in the TRNC, Insurance & claims settlement need a serious sorting out.

This explains why many do not bother with fully comp.

msg. 14 contd.

There are similar problems in the Household Insurance area too. Again, as a result, many do not bother with Household Insurance at all.

At the end of the day, what's important with insurance, is that the claim is handled properly & the service is there when you need it. There's no point in having cheap cover but a lousy claims service.

Well said Scruff

Its not about the cheapest insurance you can find but the service and claims policy they provide for the customers.

no claims bonus is starting here in 2011 with commercial insurance.

Also you can now pay extra to have flooding etc with commercial insurance so that if your car is parked and flooded it will be covered.. commercial insurance has no excess for motor insurance and also offer a courtesy car if your car will take longer than 2 days to be repaired.

We also get invloved with claims etc not just selling the policy.
