Apparently so! I had some 'Cyprus Delight' and a 'Cyprus Coffee-medium sweet' after my 'Cypriot Bath & Massage' in Paphos a few years ago. Rob

Yup !..since '74, Turkish coffee is known as Greek coffee in Greece, too ! The best bit..? After the crossing points opened in '03 many TCs were spotted buying 'Cyprus' Coffee - as they said it was better !!!!!! Any of you tried Syrian / Lebanese coffee ? ( with Cardamom ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardamom My Fav... Ever heard of a Gyro(s) ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyros 'Greek version of Kebab' ...

Before the crossing was open I was at the border end of Ledra street and the guy from a nearby shop was offering a tray of samples of this sweet. I said "Thank you but I don't like Turkish Delight". He went absolutley crazy "This isn't Turkish Delight - this is Cyprus Delight", "nothing that's Turkish can be delightful", "those murdering swine stole my house and killed my family" etc. etc. etc. etc. for a good 3 minutes at the top of his voice. I won't make that mistake if I ever go South again (that was my first and last time).

Is it really true that... when you order kleftico in Northern Cyprus you mean to order küp kebab? Yes, it's true. Kleftico is Greek and local people in TRNC speak Turkish and not Greek. So. "Küp kebab" next time, please.

I was in Greece in 1972 and was warned to ask for Greek coffee and not Turkish! So its not just the GC's being silly.

Just like how the Greeks won a EU court order to make sure any time the word FETE Cheese is used, it has to have the word 'GREEK' before it by LAW, i wouldnt be suprised of they tried to do the same to: turkish coffee houlimi cheese kebabs salad? Water? Air??? oh yeah, and it was the very same GREEK judge that sat on the contraversial Fete Cheese case back in 2005 that also ruled against the Orams in favor of the GC..... All they need to do is take it to the EU courts, get this GREEK judge to sit on the case and hey presto! Everyting is GREEK justice??? My arse!

In 1965 i WENT TO Corfou and drank 'Greek Coffee' - didn't know there was any Turkish, and when I lived in Limmassol in 1990, I visited Yeroskipou and bought Cyprus delight for family back home. Daft innit? So be careful what you order from Greek Islands to Turkish cities and all stages in between. Put the wrong adjective, and you get one of those tirrades mentioned above. Funny that it all tastes the same doesn't it?

When we lived in London, and used to eat in our favourite restaurant (owned by a TC friend of ours) he always referred to Kleftiko as "Incik", with the word "Kleftiko" in brackets written after it.

The Lodge Restaurant, Catalkoy advertise on their big sign on the main road "Kleftico" and I have seen it written this way in many restaurants but we know Cypriots are very open minded and easy going and even play greek music sometimes, not like the otherside would ever play turkish music...
