Religion imo is serious, dangerous and does not make me smile. But this is different. Today I heard on Dutch radio that a certain minister of one of the dozens of Protestants sects (his sect being better than other sects, of course) in the Netherlands is allowed by the Protestant Synod to remain a minister. No news? O yes, it is! This minister is an acknowledged atheist and recently wrote a book called "God doesn't exist, God happens". Whooooaaaaah!

P.S. The reason for tyhe Protestant Synod to keep him is his job: the diversity of opinions must be respected. Whooooaaaaah!

Sorry Dutch, forgot that you can have exclusive threads on this board. Besides which I though it was for discussion as well as information, hence my posting, I find it rather difficult to debate even religion if the points being made are too obscure. Mind you some of my German colleagues jokes are to obscure too fathom! But I forgot for a moment that you don't debate religion, your view if fixed.

elkiton, most people who enter into debate have fixed views, and attempt to convince others with differing views that they are wrong.



For mine, the point was crystal clear...and as a staunch atheist it certainly made me smile.

As it happens I'm not quite sure why DC thought the thread was not suitable for those with religious beliefs.. it's hardly evidence of the absence of a God. It just points out the foibles of some religious institutions which we must all have our concerns about... Catholic Priests touching up youngsters amongst the worst.



I'm sure a lot more people get their faith undermined by those professing to be religious than those professing to be atheist.



I'm agnostic verging on fundamentalist!
