Although I am not there, I do keep an eye on the temperature and it seems to be unnaturally cold this year, last winter I spent in TRNC and I don't think it was as cold...any comments.

What can we expect if we chose to buy, rent or live in a 'concrete tent' - no use grizzling now!

exactly..if they cannot agree on the current weather no wonder more and more of us are skeptical about these claims for global warming for decades in the future. Then the recent evidence that even the science behind the dodgy calculations is rigged and spun ;it's just another money making game.

It may be cold lately but today in the sun it is lovely. Look on the bright side, in 4 weeks it will be spring and mild and then 3 months we will be moaning about the heat

I'm freezing at night, we've got a kerosene heater and a gas fire in the lounge and an electric blanket keeps us warm in bed. It's like living in a cave!!

Lovely in the sun today tho

Yes its cold, when we lived at Bellapais in 2007 it snowed it was strange watching snow fall in the swimming pool, and the police at to escort people from Ercan through the mountains.

Yet it didn,t feel as cold as this, We are up high in the mountains at Lapta Baspinar, and they tell me it,s 2 to 3 degrees lower up here,

I dont know if it was last year or the one before when there was pictures in the paper of people playing in the snow up here,

We never thought it would get this cold in TRNC

Lovely day today here in Bury St Edmunds. Bright sunshine and clear blue skies, plus, a few degrees warmer that it has been for some time. Definitely a feel of spring in the air. Mind you, when the sun goes down it will be freezing. Having said that, in my experience, same as Cyprus once the sun goes in.

I ilive in an old Cypriot house with walls about 2 ft thick. In the lounge I have one of those brown round burners with a long chimney pipe inside, almost up to the ceiling. That has kept the whole house warm. The only other heating I use is putting the calor gas fire on in the bathrom when I have a shower, as the bathroom is large and does get cold. The house is still warm inside when I get up in the morning. So while the house from the outside might not look pretty like all the new villas, it's warm in the winter and cool in the summer. So you just choose what you prefer.

It's only been really cold for a few days & set to change tomorrow to cloudier weather. It has mostly been a very, very mild winter.

I was much colder during winters 2002/3 & 2003/4 which were very wet with a lack of sun.

The night time temperatures for the last few days, although low, haven't been nearly as low as BBC forecast. They showed a minimum of minus 1 for Kyrenia last night. It was actually 6.3 at Kayalar at 5am this morning. OK cold, but not freezing.

Get yourself an electric blanket (must have here) & dress correctly with lots of layers & it's okay. Use Paraffin fires for affordable heat.

By the end of February winter will be over.

NN, funny Kevin lived there for far longer than you have been there and he certainly doesn't see things as you do.

His actual words were, 'there's shit everywhere' and 'enjoy the rainy season' lol, my advice get some wellies otherwise you will be walking in the turd filled streets .... nice, you need to get your eyes tested me thinks!

Quite strange weather in a way. Cold out of the sun but briefly took my 3 jumpers off and lay semi naked in the sun at 2 p.m this afternoon in Lapta, wihsing the pool was heated. Was fine for a while.

This is the worst since winter 2002 for Germany where i have one of my homes. The roads in the north are so dangerous that the Government has warned people not to use their cars. The authorities have also run out of salt!

So although Cyprus is pretty cool compared to past years it won't put me off spending most of the year there!

mess 25 - yes Dee, but he spent all his time in a bar in downtown Jomtien, no wonder he was depressed....

Wee'm in the posh bit, Pra Tumnak - just by the Kings Park and the famous soi 5 beech.....

from someone that's been here 15 years "rainy season, i don't know what all the fuss is about, about 5pm you get about an hour of heavy rain, but its no big deal", anyone that says it is is talking bo@@ocks" - his words not mine..

The only sad thing is i'm back to the TRNC in March.........

We would not say it is the coldest but yes the wettest since the winter of 2006. Prior to the winter of 2008/9 we were used to a low temp of 40 degrees in the day and it has not dropped below 50 degrees during the day this winter.
