i have been offerd south reg car anyone know what the current situation is re driving car with greek plates.

If you are caught driving it here and you are registered as living here then you will have the car impounded. You will then be left with the choice of either taking the car back to the Greek side or having to pay import taxes to get it registered on this side. You will also have to pay a fine to get it out of the Customs pound. It happened to me about 12 months ago !



Stay clear of it and buy one on this side, it will save you a lot of aggro.

TandM - don't do it! We had a GC car before all the rules and regs became general knowledge but we came unstuck one day coming through Metehan. Luckily the girl was really nice and didn't impound the car but we had to leave it on the dark side and ring a friend to come pick us up. She did point out that they were perfectly within their rights to impound the car, in which case you pay a BIG fine (not specified but evidently not worth even considering) and you then still have to take the car over the border. We were lucky as a friend had already expressed interest in the car and she lives over there anyway so we sold the same day and didn't lose anything but I don't think there's that many who are so lucky.

An aquantence of ours was found out, they went on hols and came home to find car gone.



They had to retrieve it from pound, pay fines and then escorted to Metehan. Had to sell it for peanuts.



I believe you can drive for up to 90 days before either leaving for good or registering vehicle here.
