Although this looks like a picture taken from a Hollywood movie, it is in fact a real photo, taken near the South African coast during a military exercise by the British Navy.
It has been nominated by Geo as "THE photo of the year".

| What on that video. yes down on turtle bay. just tryin to pluck up the courage to go again but Im shivering at the thought of it. few more cups of tea an ill be off. The longtom garfish are supposed to be here from august to december as far as im aware and I been here 5 years. but this year they are still here now. and lots of them. plus there are lots of baracuda. A man yesterday shot a 122kilo stingray near girne. this year is looking to be a good one for fishing. |

He must have shot the stingray (or was it an Eagle Ray?) right between the eyes - otherwise he'd probably end up being towed, either down the Suez Canal, or out to the Straits of Gibraltar!
Did he land the 122Kg 'stingray', or did he decide it would be wiser to let go and forfeit his speargun.
Perhaps he cut the line with his diving knife? |
