I have always enjoyed Radio. Even today I still regularly "tune in" to Radio Caroline (my first love) on the internet. What do enjoy, both in Cyprus on traditional receivers, and from elsewhere via Internet Radio?

As wel as Caroline, and the BBC, I listen to Radio Swiss Jazz, Radio Jackie, deutsche welle english, and TalkSport most days. In TRNC I have only found bayrak international in (part) English.

Please share your favouites with us.

Thanks John

I listen ( via the PC ) to BBC Radio Ulster each morning and Go into http://www.loudcity.com in the afternoon where you can pick which type of music you wish and it gives you a selection of American stations to choose from.

Always been a radio fan since the crystal set days (remember them) - sad i know...

The internet has made listening a lot easier, and there is free software you can download to listen to stations from around the world, i have found some amusing stations from australia, usa and many others. The usa has a lot of local specialised music stations to choose from, so if you like radio give it a try..

the links below are a starting point, but if you do some searches on the internet you find others for the rest of the world.

When I was young (not yesterday) we longed for Sunday to come along to listen to Pick of the pops I think Alan Freeman presented it. my dad hated it so bought me a transistor radio and banished me to my bedroom.!!

My favourite was listening to Radio Luxemburg, hearing all the latest sounds amongst the hissing and crackling of the airwaves. The pirate ships was the undoing of Luxembourg, but my favourite advert was the pools expert Horis Bachelor from Keynsham. I wonder if anyone wrote in and used his secret formula.

I am definitely a Radio 2 fan these days. My favourites during my misspent youth were Pick of the Pops (Chris - also with transistor radio in bedroom - my Dad shouting "turn that rubbish down"), Radio Luxenbourg and Radio Caroline. Did anyone else see the film "The Boat that Rocked"?

Long ago - very long ago actually - I listened to Radio Luxembourg 208 (yes, "chrystal set", from Philips Holland, built by myself, 1.5 V battery lasted for ages...) and American Forces Network (AFN) Germany for the live baseball games. Those were the days. More than 50 years later I listen to Radio 1 (Netherlands) for the daily news (Internet) and I have a choice of American Country&Western stations via iTunes on my Macintish computer.

Was it Peter Powell Lilli, that seems to ring a bell. It's Radio 2 for me nowadays I'm afraid, just can't get used to Chris Evans instead of Terry Wogan though, what about Janet and John !

Erm 'crystal' sets did/do not need batteries. That's probably why your battery lasted for ages.

RE msg 21, AJ: (...) Erm 'crystal' sets did/do not need batteries. That's probably why your battery lasted for ages. (...)

=> You're right. Now I try to remember: I confused my first built radio (crystal set, Philips, Holland + earphone if I remember well) with the second one, which used some transistors (the case was the carton box in which the whole set was bought + small speaker and 1,5 V battery, which definitely lasted etc). The earphone was better though, because after nine o'clock or so I could listen to Radio Luxembourg underneath the sheet and blankets - strict parents, you know... First record I ever heard: "Freight train" by ...? Have to Google it. Oh, well, memories...

Back in the late 1950's in Shropshire, no mains electricity but a valve portable which needed two very expensive batteries. HT & LT. To get a bit more life out of them a couple of hours in the bottom oven of the rayburn did the trick. Moved onto transistor radio in the 60's using the telephone line as an aerial to get Radio Caroline North by day. Will always be very grateful to that station for bringing a bit of entertainment to a teenager in a part of the world the "swinging sixties" had passed by. The internet makes it all so easy now to get radio from all around the world. I can browse for hours....................
