Can anyone please tell me which is the fastest growing hedge for my garden and what is the best time to plant it. Thanks in advance for any help.

We have planted cuttings from a friend's millafiori (not sure how you spell it!) and they're now above the fence line! They were only about 6 inches when we put them in the ground about september time and we've already had to cut them back so they're pretty fast growing. They also get lots of little white flowers on which are supposed to smell nice. This is the bext time to pant them as they do like a lot of water initially, that's why we were so surprised at how well ours took whenwe put them in in the dry season! From what I can gather they're quite cheap to buy as well but if you knwo anyone who has them just be cheeky and ask fro cuttings

RE msg 1, hattikins: Lantana - you'll have a hard time to keep them out of your living room. And they hardly need any water when they are full grown (fast!). Available in several colours.

I'd cecond that - Lantana are dirt cheap and grow like wild mint but trim into a solid hedge with the advantage of being covered in lovely multicoloured clusters of floweres for nine months of the year.

As the previous post, they survive well for extended periods without water. We managed a four foot high three foot thick forty foot long solid wall of hedge in two years with twenty plants at about 2.5 tl each. And it does look lovely, not just a wall of green.

I had approx 20 planted at the back rear wall and they do go fast, ours was planted 2 feet apart so when fully grown they would look very beautiful in all different colours and soon they will extend over the back wall thanks to all the rain

Lantana do not shed leaves so near to a swimming pool would not be a problem. A point to bear in mind is that the 'fruit' that looks like a blackberry is very, very poisonous so keep chldren away from Lantana

the garden centre combined with the restaurant can't remember the name after the lions gate passing the third lapta sign

the guy will install them if you wish and extend your irrigation to where you plant them

RE msg 9, crofter: (...) A point to bear in mind is that the 'fruit' that looks like a blackberry is very, very poisonous so keep chldren away from Lantana (...)

=> I heard that also - so haven't tried it. Don't worry, (my) dogs have no interest in the Lantana fruit.
