Residency renewal costs 185 TL this year. Depending on the exchange rate £70 sounds about in the right area. This is paid at immigration on the day that you pick up your residency and should not be paid to anyone in advance. There are some rip off merchants out there who charge unsuspecting people for 'doing the paperwork' for them. The paperwork is simple and there is absolutely no need to pay anyone to help you with it.

It was maybe worth it when they went to pick it up for you, saving you the journey and the hanging around, but I think you have to go in person now, so no real saving.

That's absolutely ridiculous, if not in fact criminal. It is a very simple procedure. You take the documents needed to the police station in Girne (The immigration police all speak English). 3 to 4 weeks later you go to Immigration in Lefkosia with 7tl worth of stamps, get in the queue and pick up your residency. Why would you pay someone £70 to do that for you? Would you pay them that amount in UK or Ireland? You are being exploited.

To be honest I know quite a few people that use them for this as it saves them going all the way to Nicosia early in the morning and waiting in the cue which takes hours. So I dont think its ridiculous at all, after all if you dont want to pay others to do it you dont have to, but there are people out there - who do not have the time or the patience - that appreciate the service. No offence intended to those that do not agree, just my personal opinion

Msg. 11 I would be more than happy to help anyone with their immigration, but I could not bring myself to charge for it. Maybe a charge for the petrol to Lefkosia that's all. I believe that one has to be there (immigration in Lefkosia) in person these days. Sorry, it's a rip off!

Thats very nice of you, I must say. But if you had 20-30 people asking you to do it every week, would you still stop doing whatever you are to go and do it for these people? (Please say no otherwise I may start thinking you`re an angel!) They are running a business there and I dont think it would be fair for them to spend hours away every day and not charge? A lot of people seem to hire them for this service because as I said not everyone has the time for this and some dont have the transport so once again I dont think its ridiculous at all.

Here's a tip:

If you have to renew your residency in the summer, do the Girne police station bit on time. It is quite easy and quick. After the usual 4 weeks processing wait, if it is still very hot leave it until the weather cools down before going to Nicosia. You can leave it for 6 months or more to do the Nicosia bit as there is no time limit on this.

You should ask Ergunes exactly what they will do for their 70 stg. If, as others have stated you now need to go to Immigration in person to collect your residency permit, then in my opinion you are better doing the police station bit yourself, keep the 70 quid in your pocket and buy the wife some flowers, choccies and a romantic dinner next Sunday if you have one that is

My wife and I paid the girls at Ergunes £100 each 5 years ago. I ended up doing my own and got my money back. Done it ourselves since. A better option is to use Louie, he usually parks in the police station car park from about 9-00am. He has an oldish bronze merc, FF plates. I have his mobile number. E-mail me if you want it.

msg. 13... of course I'm an angel!!!!

No of course I would not be able to keep up with that amount of people unless of course I started a database and took them all down at the same time according to their renewal dates. Mmmmm.... now you got me thinking! I think maybe a charge of around 50 to 100 TL would be acceptable.

Up until last year we did our own residency every year but on hearing that it was necessary to be at Immigration early in the morning and possibly stay there all day, both of which were impossible for us, we used Ergunes. They charged us 100TL for 2 people on top of the usual residency fee and stamps. As we had made 3 visits to Immigration last year from Esentepe we felt that it was a reasonable amount for no hassle. We handed our passports over one day and got them back the next day. Are you sure they said 70 Stg? 70TL is more like what they charge an individual. Did you go to Ergunes because I've read on this forum that a company near them do charge more.

I collected both mine and my wife's a couple of weeks ago whilst she stayed at home.

Reference the driving school message 13, 20-30 people per week at £70, not a bad little earner.

Do they pay tax on that ????

Personally see no problem doing it yourself.

It is easy, takes no more than a couple of hours (once a year) usually and then spend the day in Lefkosa catching up on your history lessons.

For me these people just perpetuates the non intigration of foreigners ie being reliant on thieves prepared take your money and for you to moan later about the costs. I know nobody has said that on this thread, makes a refreshing change, but elsewhere ....... rabbit, rabbit etc.
