Got a Blue Tit, (yes, go on get all the jokes out of the way in this cold weather), that keeps flying into the window. Two questions,

1. Why?

2. What can you do to stop it? Please don't suggest opening the window!

Any ideas appreciated.

Hang your nuts out - a little way from the window! (Sorry couldnt resist it!) Maybe there is nothing around for food - so the nuts/fat idea may help it - perhaps the warmth of the window is also attractive in the cold weather - also is there unfrozen water around? We used to have an owl do the same - I was worried it would hurt itself, so left food away from the house.

We used to have the same problem at the office - it was a nightmare - blood stained windows and dead birds on the ground UGH!! We got some stick on black images of flying birds (can't remember where from - maybe RSPB) and it solved the problem.

Yes we have the worry that it will injure itself, it launches itself from the water tanks that have plenty of rain water on them. I will work on the food idea, other half has a few nuts knocking around in this cold weather!

Birds tend to fly into Windows because they see trees ,sky etc reflected in the glass which confuses them.

I am not sure what the solution is apart from blocking all reflections.

This warning sticker for windows reflects UV light which can be seen by birds but not us. It's shown as 'Window Alerts'
