Resso: Pekes get very stressed in hot weather (which goes on a long time and is unavoidable in N.Cyprus). They have difficulty breathing because of their tiny 'pug' noses and their long coats make them feel like they're baking. All this can put a big strain on their hearts. We used to live in Cyprus and at one time had a Peke so am talking from experience. Short-haired/smooth coat little dogs may be more energetic than Pekes but they adapt to life in hot climates better. Can't you find another small breed? Good luck anyway.

We have a Peke and she does suffer in the heat but we have all her coat cut off twice during the summer months which helps. We are returning to UK anyway and taking her with us so she will like UK better weatherwise for sure.
