I cannot beleive that a romantic dinner with your loved one is not popular any longer, lots of places in trnc are giving you free buffet, free drink and music on valentine's night and maybe a tenner for your petrol and your time, what happen to the days we took our love out for a nice evening and maybe be on a promise after?. i feel that men should ask themself if it's right to treat your lady to a nice dinner or to show a mean they could be by find a place where everything is free and ........why is free????

Guido, I don't think many people would be happy knowing the reason that their partner bought them to a particular restaurant was because there was free food!!

However, everyone knows that Valentines Day is just a marketing ploy, and a bit of a rip-off! As if there is just one day per year when you should show someone how much you love them!!

Its also about each other, not just the man having to always give. A lot of us 'girls' like to give our men something lasting. Yes a nice meal shared, but it is also nice to dine at home together......

I thought valentines was to do with sending and receiving anonomous cards with no signature on them. And you had to guess who had sent them. Not all this taking your partner out for a meal thingy.Or have i got it totally wrong.I have been married to Cheryl for 26 years now and we have known each other since we where 15,but i dont have to take her out for a meal or buy her a card on a particular day to prove how much she means to me,

Paul.

As was I smithy, perhaps thats why some marriage/partnerships last the test of time....

Whats nicer than doing something for your hubby or partner without always having to spend to show your love......

How about sharing one at the Boardwalk by the river in Brisbane Richard, wonderful, and warmer than here.

Newlad, it was such fun receiving those cards, yes you are right about this mealy thing, its another way of saying, 'look what I have done for you', another way of portraying something that is not always sincere!

Give me good old fashioned romance, a nice walk together, a cosy fire, chocs to share, a nice meal prepared together, and on a regular basis......

As for taking partners out on valentine night for a freebe, thats grossssssss, but every one to their own.....

Hattikins Msg 10

Have you seen the state of the average Oz Sheila recently? Tattooed up to the eyeballs and well overweight! And with the astronomical price of beer it's not even possible to drown ones sorrows!

I have been married 50 years but I still have all the valentine cards and little trinkets I got in my teens they are in my memory box in the attic. In the news today, a Headmaster has banned his primary school children from sending cards to each other, because they are not old enough to understand the meaning of them!!

Wow woodspeckie you have beaten me!! 44 yrs is ours, met him when I was 11yrs old!!! engaged at 16, married at 19, and still have my love letters and cards too. These are stored in a draw also....

Some one asked hubby what was the secret to a long and happy, sometimes quite turbulent marraige, he said, well she's never been boring, never the same, seems like been married 20,000 years some times, ... other times like yesterday!!!! Make what you like of that...... Im still thinking

No1Doyen love is by far the best, romance is just words, sometimes just for gain!!!!! So beware all you ladies, keep the asprin between yer legs on the 14th, as me mum used to say......
