It is now almost certian that Mr Denktash, the first president of TRNC is going to support Talat at the next election against Eroglu. I am not surprised at all. In my view Eroglu has no experience or vision with international politics and he is only good at suppoting people who support him. In my view he has done more harm than good with his partisan policies. ismet

Ismet I find it strange that Talats major vocal opponent should support him in the forthcoming elections. And although I do not have the contacts that you have, the general feeling I am getting from the TC's in my village is that Eroglu will win a landslide victory in the first round. AJ

Ismet A strong view and according to some politically aware who I know in the UK you might well be right that Talat will get in. The trouble is what help can the country afford to give the tourist industry (tourism and education are the biggest export earners) with advertising and support of the Tourist Offices outside the ministry buildings. At present they seemingly exist on a hand to mouth basis with no budget or financial support. The tour operators need support and there is none available. This problem applies to the worldwide travel industry where the biggest companies* are reporting loses every week. *Some of these companies probably have a fiscal value in excess of the TRNC. Like many countries North Cyprus is overdrawn and in trouble and I am not sure what can be done to assist any of those countries at present apart from???

Doesn't credibility mean anything to anyone? There's Eroglu now stating he wants to continue the talks and find a solution (although we all know how he really feels, but we don't know the pressure from Turkey) and now Ismet, you say Mr Denktash is going to pally up with the guy he continually slags off, who is pro-settlement (when Denktash is not). I really do not understand politics.

Denktaş will support Talat. There is only one reason for this: The absolute incapability of Eroğlu beeing a President. It would be another very very dark day for the TCs if he wins. Hope not, knock on wood.

p'raps im missing something here but i dont see in elko's post anywhere he said that Talat was likely to win Paul, hopeful maybe but with the rank n file will he ?? people in TRNC tend to vote for the person (party) who gives or promises them (personally) the most, eg gov't job not who gives the most for the country unfortunatley

As someone with a vote Im stuck what to do... My predicament is : We all want a solution...but voting Eroglu just means supporting the nepotism that has been continuing since the govt elections, voting talat contradicts my beliefs that a united Cyprus will never work. As someone who grew up with greek and greek cypriot children in Australia I can tell you firsthand the abuse I was subjected to. So what to do...probably cast no vote, And move away...because there is no work and no opportunity and no future for us here..which is so sad because we are always strangers in strange lands which open their hearts and homes to us.I must say- living here in North Cyprus has completely disillusioned me. And from what I can see from everyone here, they say one is much like the other, unless you have 'torpil'
