President Mehmet Ali Talat spoke at a symposium and said that Turkish Cypriot side was trying very hard in order to reach a solution. Talat said: “I don’t want to accept that we are giving concessions. An agreement cannot be reached without being elastic. An agreement cannot also be reached by the elasticity of only one side. What we put forward as the Turkish side are not affecting our interests.” Talat said that the Greek Side has to be elastic in its position. President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the Turkish Side is carrying out intensive efforts towards reaching a successful conclusion to the ongoing negotiations

Touching upon the Cyprus issue at the opening of the World Cardiology and Cardiovascular Diseases Symposium, the President said that the Turkish Side has made some proposals which will be appreciated by those who really know the Cyprus issue.

He said they had shown some flexibilities with the proposal that was put forward.

‘I do not accept accusations that we made concessions. Agreement and compromise can not be maintained without showing flexibility, our proposals and the flexibilities we have shown will not effect the rights of the Turks of Cyprus’ he added.

He also called on the Greek Cypriot Side to show the same flexibility in order to bring about an agreement.

No.1 Doyen. He must know he's on his own with that. Flexibility/elasticity ? No, no bending from down south, just some stretching of the same old same old. They'll be watching their own backs now anyway since the mothercountry's in a bad way......
