Yes, my friend, the next one could be Spain, can you believe that?

I called my mother in Barcelona two days ago and she told me that in Spain they are cutting the salaries that where already low. For instance, you get 1.000€, but now they say: we should reduce your wages in 200€, so we can save the company. What do you do?

But this situation is in big part caused by the former goverment of Aznar. He made rich people richer and poor people poorer. The middle class is now almost non-existent. He made this in three ways:

1- Promoting the speculation with property

2. Not controlling the conversion from the peseta to the euro.

3. Increasing the flow of immigrants into the country, so the salaries would continue low.

Believe this: the situation of a normal family in Spain was already critical much before the crisis. A global crisis? The last thing the country needed.

And, by the way, the f***ing idiot who invented the PIGS expression, he is indeed the pig.

Have to agree with you both I also think spain but I do think the EU should make an example of Grece and throw them out, how can the rest be made to pay. Albert I agree the term PIIGS is racist and should never have ben allowed, but then they get away with it xx

They won't throw Greece out Lilli, they may make an example of them to make other member states sit up and take notice.

Greece should be made to resort to the IMF. That way it is kept separate from the EU and the IMF will impose controls that the EU are not capable of doing.

Good idea, AJ, maybe that's the solution to avoid the whole EU sinks.

What I don't understand is why Ireland is in this group. Few years ago, it has the best prospectives on employement and very high salaries. What hapenned? Any Irish in this forum?

Bill

Yes it would be legal because Greece is one of 186 countries that have signed up to membership of the IMF and as such have contributed funds to support the IMF. But my guess is that because of the fiscal controls that will be imposed by the IMF Greece may find a bail out by the EU an easier proposition.

To me the whole situation stinks big time.

Yes, it's not so much the huge debt, it was the dishonesty surrounding it.

Rapid uncontrolled growth, easy to borrow money. The same pattern as a lot of other EU countries.

Recipe for disaster.

The celtic tiger roared the EU clapped thier hands, silicone valley moved there from usa aND UK. It had the best facalies for everything, from medicine to it technology, sadly what has it got now lots of workers from poland etc who work for less. I guess Spain has had the same major investments with hugh EU and the countries development grants. It all dries up. Wales has had major investments as Im sure Scotland has its all under the EU umberlla. AJ that was the best opportunity the south of ireland ever ever had. many got rich but the farmers had to conform to eu standards, why when the cattle are reared naturally. The EU control milk supsides etc i guess it all got to hard to conform x

every one who joined the emu were given vasts amounts of money to do so , when they took that booty there was no way back , they are ruled by a central bank ,which sets interest rates as and when it wants , no one can devalue the currency anymore to stabalise theyre economy ,the euro will burst sooner rather than later .

rowlo i think with all this its sooner than we think. I remember being in a liitle town outside Cork, when suddendly all these armed guards arrived and surrounded the bank. we watched in awe , we were all told to stand back , suddendly these armed vans arrived with the first euros. i cant beleive ireland was first. But I know I should not start a sebtance with but, nut Ireland could have changed the EU history if it only stuck to its principles re the lisbon treaty. I firmly beleive it would have changed history, but no they were cohearsed to chabge thier minds. this situation would not have happened if we had stuck to our guns, but i gues funding would have dried up xxxxxx

Thank you for your answers about Ireland

What some specialists say is that the real crisis will start this year, when we realize that all the measures we took didn't work. Those specialists say that we won't have the same economic level previous to the crisis until 2020. Oh...

Greece are now massively indebted & have just sold their souls to the EU. Spain, Portugal, Ireland will be next on the shopping list.

Make no mistake.................... Labour & Conservatives do not run or Govern the UK. It is the "illusion" of a vote that makes us think that we live in a democratic society. The people that are elected are just puppets.

The UK is controlled by the "elite" & they control everything including the EU & America. All you have to do is follow the money.

I have spent 100's if not 1000's of hours researching this & once you have you eyes opened to it you can see it a mile off but most people will be more interested in the X factor & it's designed that way.

Did you also read 'Stupid White Men' by Michael Moore - that, surely, was an 'eye-opener'!

Unemployment in Greece has soared to 10.6%, the highest in five years, compared to 7.8% a year earlier. It has also been revealed that civil servants in Greece are set to join the private sector strike on 24 February in protest at spending cuts in the Greek budget. At the moment the Greece authorities are being pulled from both sides with the European Union demanding a massive reduction in spending and civil servants and unions opposed to such cuts.

corbo..that took a nosedive the other day. 40$ an ounce wiped off in a matter of minutes...They all have The Thatcher disease of boom and bust, and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer as a previous poster has already stated. The likes of george Soros,Bill gates and a couple of other multi billionaires dictate who gets to be in power in the states, and the rest just follow suit around the world.Russia is not any different.Putin is put in power by the money men and when he stands down his puppet takes over.No change. They say 1% of the population govern 99% of the wealth of any country...

Yes Coachie Gold fell hard recently but it does this then climbs back up. The big speculators, the City boys play it for short term gains and the banks suppress the price but over the last few years it had gained in value way above the stock market. It is volatile and not every ones cup of tea and being pegged to the dollar you are into currency speculation as well. I bought at the worst time last March but my few kilos are still worth over £3 K more now and if left in the best saving account I would have been lucky to have got £600. I see it rising quite fast through Spring to around $1300 an ounce.
