For 5 years there were no sheep in upper Catalkoy area past the riding school. All of a sudden a shepherd appeared with about 200 sheep. He walks them wherever he wants, along our roads, the back of our houses from Catalkoy to Ozankoy apparently. The roads, grassverges, wasteland is covered with sheep shit for miles. My dog has started to eat it (is it healthy) and her poo smells like sheep shit now. The smell is in my car so it must be on my boots too. Why are they allowed to walk through residential areas. He has enough space up in the forest area. The smell is dreadful. Im sure he walks from the back of the Malpas and right through into Ozankoy roads.

Not going to go down well, but sheep and shepherds have been part of Cyprus for many many years before the the Brits came.

Got to agree with 2&3.

You have to coexist. We get along great with our goat owner, even let the goats drink in the pool.

If it was not for all the foreigners the goats would still have all their natuaral grazing land and watering holes, now they have to fight for every last blade of grass and drop of water.

My only comment would be to make sure your dogs worming treatment is up to date and also jabs as there is a parasite that can be passed from sheep to canines. Sorry, but I actually love watching the goats etc when in NC its part of the laid back lifestyle.

Why do people move to NC? Because they liked the rural bit and those sheep have been there since the day dot! next thing you will be wanting street lights all over the Island because its dark on the roads! Sorry to sound cross but the shepherd possibly thinks why the hell have you moved over here to moan about his way of living and his sheep!

Take your dogs somewhere else to walk, I for one love to see the goats and sheep wandering about, but get fed up with the whinning of us brits.....

I also do not like dogs pooo on my shoes so keep your dogs in your own garden......There, thats my rant for today, sorry LostFound.

Oh - for God's sake. Why the Christ do people move to a place like N.C.?

Why not 'do away' with the likes of 'shepherds, etc. with their smelly sheep and goats'.

My dog used to eat horse's poo - he loved to roll in it and eat it - he lived until he was 17, so can't see much harm in it really. Get something else to worry about. What next - you saw fish in the sea? Didn't like the feel of them underfoot, swimming around your legs/feet. Stay in the pool.

Good grief - no wonder they all moan about whinging Brits!

I can't believe this is seen as a problem. When we bought ourland 10 years ago, sheep regularly grazed here, in fact everywhere there are now houses. That it is a part of the past that seems to have gone forever where I am. I find that very sad.

Lots of 'yum yum's on this board. Expensive 'yum yum' lamb here. 18 TL in Lemar for two slices from a leg (around 1/2 kilo) for a casserole. Over priced like many things.

lol snd! My pal who has a small farm in Cornwall, right off the beaten track, got complaints from the new townie neighbours (who had purchased and created a 'barn conversion' weekend retreat) about her cockerel crowing! They even recorded the noise and took it to the local council to see if anything could be done about stopping it. Unbelievable but true. The countryside turning out not to be the quiet retreat a lot of townies think it will be!

oleander, having been brought up in and lived most of life in the country those are the complaints we heard all the time. Then the townies who moved into our villages complained because they were treated as second class citezezens. In my home village you were never treated as part of the village until you lived there at least 20 years!!!!!

Those days are gone because the PC brigade really have got church bells stopped and cockerels shut down. Now those same a***h**** are trying to do the same here. Thank god the courts here would more likely chuck you out of the country than hear some of the nonesense.

Corbo, its called lack of sheep in NC!!! Supply and demand, more like lack of sheep because of moaning brits about poooo!!! Look at how many sheep and goats have gone because of the building and moaning...... Who the heck wants to put up with all the hassle..... Get a sheep yourself, put it in the garden, then you can have cheap meat when you kill it!!!

As for the townies comming to the country side, we have had all of that crap thrown at us even when you help these people when they have problems. Its called moaning brits!!!

RE msg 1, LostFound: Hmm. Not much of a complaint, I've read much better ones. Like this one from a Brit east of Girne (in a letter to Cyprus Today): "There is so much dust on the road to my house, my car gets dusty all the time. And because of the dust my friends and relatives don't want to visit us anymore!".

Really, he wrote it.

Well bet you cant beet this one then , we were spreading lime in fields at least 1/2 mile from any neighbours, when we were stoped by the environment agency and the police as they had had a report that we were poisoning them!!! didnt they have red faces when they examined what we were doing, another case of townies not understanding the workings of where and what goes into producing their food that they eat every day!.....

I've no probs killing a sheep Dizzy C but I'm off in April. From observations here on prices some things are well over priced and likely get chucked out rather than sold.

If you could stop the sea crashing as well because it keeps me awake at night, and tone down that sun as it gets a bit hot in the summer. And as for those humming bird moths, can they not make them a bit smaller?

Also can anyone tell me what that strange and eerie wailing is at dawn and dusk I really think SOMETHING should be done.

Final request, if you could move the Besparmaks round to the left a bit I would be able to see the sunset in winter.

Some people should be careful what they wish for, our neighbours complained about the Goats eating their plants and drinking from their pool, the solution from that Goat herder was to tie two dogs to the mountain side so they would bark scaring the Goats away (this was last May). No more Goats, instead two Dogs barking all night!

It could be worse. We have about 200 sheep on our land and suddenly our border collie has started rolling in it. Her white bits are now green and she absolutely reeks. (In Isle of Man not Cyprus but I imagine some dogs over there will enjoy rolling in it too!) Our labrador avoids the sheep droppings and has started rolling in mud instead! I think it is because they are moulting at the moment.

Thankyou Ballyboffin that made me laugh.

In Devon we had the same problem with people complaining about the sea gulls.

The gulls never came inland until humans blasted them from their habitat.

Ok they pooped all over your cars your windows and your washing but they were there first and a wonderful sight to see,as are the sheep/goats here in N/Cyprus.

Every species that eats needs to poo.A natural bodily function. What's the fuss about?

Maybe the shepherd has the Freedom of the Boroughs of Catalkoy and Ozankoy, which allows him to walk freely to let his sheep graze, as do many in UK, when they are awarded the Freedom of the City.

No better site to see than a shepherd herding his sheep/goats through a residential areas in Cyprus.

Our local shepherd does this occasionally, coming in from the brush, he has at least 100. They are here and gone in 10 mins....all the tinkling bells and not much muck left after them........

Lostfound....maybe you would be happier living in a high rise in London overlooking the A40 and all the dogshite on the pavement below......Baaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Absolutely Tiggy. When I lived up at Hilltop, I loved watching the sheep being led across the grazing land outside. A far more relaxing and pleasing view than the one to the left (the unfinished hotel) or the one in the distance (lots of unfinished dwellings).

There were plenty up there who never stopped moaning about the goats eating their 'english country garden plants'.

Talking of goats, as I was on my morning hill walk the other day a herd of goats crosses the path and dashed up the hill besides where I was passing. The big white male with horns a plenty looked at me with some trepidation as he rushed by me and then stumbled on the way up the steep hill by the path. He fell and then scrambled back up and took off but looked back and I swear he looked embarrassed for his slip in front of his mates. I felt guilty that lunchtime tucking into the cleftico..at least until the 4 th glass of red.

The Ventirloquist Cowboy And The Sheep

A ventirloquist cowboy walked into town and saw a rancher sitting on his porch with his dog.

Cowboy: Hey, cool dog. Mind if I speak to him?

Rancher: This dog don't talk!

Cowboy: Hey dog, how's it going?

Dog: I'm Doing alright

Rancher: (Extreme look of shock)

Cowboy: Is this your owner? (pointing at rancher)

Dog: Yep.

Cowboy: How's he treat you?

Dog: Real good. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great food, and takes me to the

lake once a week to play.

Rancher: (Look of disbelief)

Cowboy: Mind if I talk to your horse?

Rancher: Horses don't talk!

Cowboy: Hey horse, how's it going?

Horse: Not bad.

Rancher: (An even wilder look of shock)

Cowboy: Is this your owner? (pointing at rancher)

Horse: Yep.

Cowboy: How's he treat you?

Horse: Pretty good, thanks for asking. He rides me regularly, brushes me down

often, and keeps me in the barn to protect me from the elements.

Rancher: (total look of

I hear that shepherds in the land of the "welcome in the hillside"

have changed from zips to buttons on their trousers,

because the sheep had got used to the sound of the zip and

did a runner whenever they heard the noise.
