RE msg 2, Bill: No. Not even close (extra hint...)!

Hint-2 (after 25 views of this thread): It's not a well and was repaired during the British colonial rule of Cyprus.

It's very satisfying to say a loud "NO!" to a Moderatror, Bill...

Hint-3: "For men-at-arms and animals..., and they both need what it covers..."

8 pm in Cyprus: sorry, no winner in the St Hilarion Castle quiz-1! The right answer (picture here: http://is.gd/8ifyJ ): this is broken pottery from the Lusignan era (1192-1489). When the roof of one of the cisterns (nr. 22 on my detailed map of St Hilarion) in the lower ward was repaired (during the British colonial rule, 1878-1960), the masons made cement and concrete on the spot and weren't bothered to use whatever they found there. The pieces really belong in a national (TRNC) museum, but unfortunately there is not one yet...
