I have seen the odd Daffodil here and there but no “swathes” of them. Has anyone had success with the bulbs surviving the dry summers and flowering again the following year? Thanks Chegwin

Yes, I've grown them in the past, but quickly learnt you must lift them out after they have died down, as they cannot take the heat, and the bulbs get eaten by the magpies.

Got tete a tete showing their heads.Lots of daffodilsall over the place, from 12"high to just appearing out of the ground.Definitely have bunches for Dewi Sant...St.David's Day. And yes, once the foliage has yellowed, take them out of the ground, and store to plant next year, say November. Oh and all swet peas planted November are over 12" high. Mike

I planted some daffs on my parents' grave in Kyrenia in 1987. One bulb stoically produces one flower every year!

Back to the Middle England mentality again why plant northern hemisphere spring bulbs in Cyprus when there are so many beautiful local plants.

Paddy, read the post,do NOT talk about middle England or any part that country to our East. And for your benefit,my fantastic display of Cyprus wild narcissi has just finished in the lemon grove. In fact,ALL my daffodil bulbs were purchased in a Turkish district of Istanbul. Go and eat your shamrock

I'd agree that it is too hot in the summer for yellow daffodils but the white ones flower consistently. I have far more buds this year than for several years. The wet winter has done wonders for the plants.

To all gardeners - Beware!! We took daffodil bulbs over to Esentepe but unknown to us the little girl next door started to eat them thinking they were onions. We immediately rushed her to Kyrenia hospital. The surgeon took her in to intensive care and after about 2 hours reported back to us that thankfully all was OK but they were keeping her in. They did expect her to be out in the Spring. PJNXI

Paddywack. Nothing to do with middle England society. If you do not have anything constructive to add to the threads please don’t. There are a few indigenous species of Narcissi that are around the Med’ coast. My question was has anyone experience of growing these or any variations. That was all. Bonjour Chegs

We see loads of wild Narcissus here on the slopes in Esentepe, so they must be able to withstand the heat etc.. without being lifted. It may be that cultivated beds are more prone to heat, as the earth won't be as compacted or naturally fed by the underground water table.

It's best to lift all bulbs from the ground when the foilage has died back and is brown.Keep them in as cool /dark place you can find here. Oh and daffodils originated from the narcissi, grown in Europe BEFORE UK or Middle Wngland joined!!! My sweet pea seeds did come from UK and I'm trying to be colour coordinated, with a bed of white, and pink, and blue.

Don't bother to lift Freesias. By far the best bulb to grow in Cyprus. They come back year in year out & they increase. When in Cyprus, Largely forget what grew well in the UK. Grow here what grows well here, it's a lot less effort.
