it wont work even if you put a dish bigger than anything NASA have let alone 4.2 meter ! a freeveiw box from the uk is designed to only work from land based terestrial transmiters in the uk . seeing cyprus is about 2000 miles away and taking in the curviture of the earth NO is the answer.

a freesat box that uses the astra 2d signal ( same as sky ) will but the dreaded 4.2 meter dish is required

CLARIFICATION

Freeview = box that takes signal from television antennae on the ground

Freesat = box that takes signal from satellites.

It AMAZES me that even though this question comes up quite often, that some 'experts' STILL get it TOTALLY wrong.

Let's put it another way.. would you expect to pick up 'TRNC' TV if you took your CY tele back home ? ;)

Well done, Harold..

If you are leaving the UK and have a Freeview set top box, let me have it.. it will be as much use as a chocolate tea-pot to you :(

On a similar vein, a lot of the UK TV's have built in Freeview.

Would this effect the TV working OK in Cyprus?

As yet Cyprus doesn't have terrestrial digital TV... Terrestrial Digital TV takes ( say) 5 current ordinary frequencies and piles far more channels into thoset frequency segments .

If you try to scan for channels with the D-TV scan for channels in a non digital area you get nothing ... if you scan with the analogue scan for channels you'll get local CY TV, but in most models of TV no sound.. We use PAL-I in the UK / IRL ...... the Cypriots, Turks, and Greeks use PAL-BG..

So, unless you do have a model that is multi TV broadcast std - most UK TVs aren't - you'll need

to use a device that feeds via the SCART / HDMI ( .eg. DVD, sat receiver, VCR -capable of receiving PAL- BG )
