Sad, thought they were doing better there than their previous venture, but must say it has been quiet there

recently. Best wishes to them both.

RE msg 8, negativenick: (...) or as my old Uncle Percy would say "the TRNC will get ya sooner or later...." (...)

=> Where's 'the TRNC' involved? You don't miss a chance to use bitter, insinuating words about this country, do you?

RE msg 11, matula: (...) Same old story----greedy landlords. They never learn do they! (...)

=> If your information is from this thread: where did you read that, why start another rumour? If it's not: why don't you share your knowledge?

Sorrycould someone explain. Is this the Ruth and Tony that were at Farmhouse, then Waterfront and then moved on? If so, what has happened? Not enough trade? I have never been to the STumble In, but isn't it a bit off the beaten track with few 'locals' around.

And what are Ruth and Tony doing now? Leaving, or moving on to another premises?

Yes, they did provide good food and a good service whenever I have encountered them, but there are so many businesses going to the wall. As someone said on another thread, and what applies in just about any country - if you own the premises you stand a chance of making a go of it, but otherwise, it is just one financial struggle after another.

Well said DC i could not agree with you more... So what another business has folded, business is a gamble wherever you may be in the world and no matter how much research is done failure is always a possibilty.

People instantly blame the TRNC or greedy landlords, landlords worldwide are greedy in nature, the TRNC is not an island of business opportunities and never has promoted to be so.

My business folded last summer and I do not blame the TRNC or my greedy landlord, I took a gamble and I lost... But I must say that gossip, whinging and jealousy from some cheapskate brits wanting everything for nothing did not help.. I did say some not all ;))

can't believe I'm agreeing with DC twice. Is that understanding "double Dutch"? My best friend in UK is a German contemporary. Any argument between us, and there have been many, he always ended, if losing the argument, with the accusation that "you are just a Little Englander". Never really undestood what he meant, until I came here.

MarieB;

You need to get out more

Stumble is hardly off the beaten track and when Liv and Ben had it it was thriving.

Previous owner had some strange ideas which started the downward spiral.

Wowee, Newscoop - I should get ut more! Myhusband reckons I should stayin more! Can't please them all. Trouble is that I have a 'second home' which is in town. It is known as Cafe Dukkan and I am afraid that gets all my hard earned pennies (or rather my husband's pension!) tokeep me topped up withmy drug - caffeine.

And I have no idea who Liv and Ben are, - I am just so sorry that yet another couple have fallen foul of an opportunity gone wrong.

By the way, not only do I not get out enough according to you,but I must tell you that i am extremely boring too, cos I don't imbibe (coffee or water - that's my lot). AND 'im in the kitchen hates smokey places, so we never went places like Stumble.

Gee I have admitted to being boring and a roving gypsy all at the same time.

I talked to Ruth a couple of weeks ago at Lambousa Market where she still has a stall and is quite happy to chat if you ask her.

Marie, yes they are former Farmhouse and Waterfront.

At the moment they are not moving to anywhere else just taking a break from the hassle and to review life. They did not have to close Filling Station as far as I gathered.

Isn't it strange how everyone except message 22 still referred to the place as the Stumble when it had changed it name to the 'Filling Station'.

Message 20 You said

"Stumble is hardly off the beaten track and when Liv and Ben had it it was thriving".

Agree with that totally.

"Previous owner had some strange ideas which started the downward spiral".

Disagree as Mick did fill the place with some entertainment and also free food on sundays in the summer, not many done that. It was one of the busiest bars in the area at that time but alas as it has already been said, the rent and the electric at an extortionate tariff etc etc. There is just not enough of us living here in the winter months to help these people in business sadly.
