http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLDE61H1IZ20100218 The way they are carrying on no one will have any more sympathy (if that's the right word) for them regarding the situation here. Everyone else's fault but their own & can only be good for this place if they continue their current path. They may have to close the borders to stop the mass exodus to the North.

| decyprus Agree. Claudia Schiffer is especially welcome to place her towel and herself on my sun bed. Unbelievable ,is that their answer in trying to win over the German public. just when "Germans oppose a bailout, and Germany's biggest selling daily Bild has lambasted Greece as a nation of lazy cheats who should be "thrown out of the euro on their ear". a view shared by many other countries. Pathetic, talk about self destruction. Until recently Germany was the largest exporter in the world, a place that China has just narrowly beaten them in. Hardwork, dedication and efficiency got them to this position not cheating and scrounging. Greece take note, they lost the War, took it on the chin, accepted responsibility, didnt blame anyone else for their misfortunes, and with others in Europe crawled from under the rubble and rebuilt. Brussels Turkey. Germany. Who next to blame,? Italy for the Roman conquest, Iran for ruining the economy 1000 yrs ago? The climate? Pathetic.

The unfortunate fact of life is that Greece is going to be a major thorn in the side of the EU for some time and the best thing the EU can do is cut them loose and let them find their own way in the big wide world. AJ

The U.K. could also join the bandwagon and ask France and the rest of western Europe, North Africa, et al, to pay for the hardship felt by the U.K. when they went it alone after the other tossers including Greece capitulated to the facists during WW2. Sorry but blood is boiling as I type this.

Dear Prof There can be NO excuse for 'fibbing' to the EU about the state of GR finances to get in the Eurozone club, but if we are dealing with FACTS, can I remind you that the Greeks ( and Cypriots ) actually participated in WWII ! ? They caused Mr Hitler to have to pour resources he didn't have - as the Greeks inflicted a humiliating defeat on his allies - the Italians - in Albania - The Italians had a numerically superior force. Even if you don't know your history - hasn't your partner wept watching Captain Corelli's Mandolin http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238112/

Terrible to see European "partners" squabbling like that. Whenever you start to lose an arguement with a German, just mention the war. Tee-hee.

Yes, perhaps I was being a trite generic as well as slightly enraged when writing the thread, but you are indeed correct when looking at each countries efforts in detail. Naughty boy me.
